A environ deux kilomètres au nord-ouest d'Ostheim vor der Rhön, le long d'un chemin forestier dans la forêt et non loin du château de Lichtenburg, se trouve un monument naturel impressionnant : le double chêne âgé d'environ 300 ans. Il doit son nom à la forme particulière de sa croissance - le tronc imposant se divise déjà à 1,5 mètre de hauteur en deux pousses robustes. Tandis que l'une d'entre elles pousse à pic et se ramifie à nouveau plus haut, l'autre s'incline nettement sur le côté. Le tronc moussu et le banc en bois qui l'entoure confèrent à l'endroit une atmosphère particulière et invitent à la détente. En tant que monument naturel inscrit dans le district de Rhön-Grabfeld, le double chêne n'est pas seulement remarquable d'un point de vue botanique, mais aussi une destination appréciée des amoureux de la nature et des randonneurs.
Around two kilometers northwest of Ostheim vor der Rhön, along a forest path in the woods and not far from Lichtenburg Castle, stands an impressive natural monument: the approximately 300-year-old double oak tree. It owes its name to its striking growth form - the mighty trunk splits into two strong shoots at a height of just 1.5 meters. While one grows steeply upwards and branches out again further up, the other leans strikingly to one side. The mossy trunk and the wooden bench surrounding it lend the place a special atmosphere and invite you to linger. As a registered natural monument of the Rhön-Grabfeld district, the double oak is not only botanically remarkable, but also a popular destination for nature lovers and hikers.
Rund zwei Kilometer nordwestlich von Ostheim vor der Rhön, entlang eines Forstwegs im Wald und unweit der Lichtenburg, steht ein beeindruckendes Naturdenkmal: die etwa 300 Jahre alte Doppelte Eiche. Ihren Namen verdankt sie ihrer markanten Wuchsform – der mächtige Stamm teilt sich bereits in 1,5 Metern Höhe in zwei kräftige Triebe. Während einer steil in die Höhe wächst und sich weiter oben erneut verzweigt, neigt sich der andere markant zur Seite. Der bemooste Stamm und die ihn umgebende Holzbank verleihen dem Ort eine besondere Atmosphäre und laden zum Verweilen ein. Als eingetragenes Naturdenkmal des Landkreises Rhön-Grabfeld ist die Doppelte Eiche nicht nur botanisch bemerkenswert, sondern auch ein beliebtes Ziel für Naturfreunde und Wandernde.
