Oktober 1855–2. März 1927).

From 1523 until the land reform in 1945, Seebach was owned by the von Berlepsch family, who belonged to the lower nobility. The family had a lasting impact on the village. At the end of the 19th century, two lines of the sprawling family resided in Seebach. Next to the castle, Dr. phil. et Dr. jur. h.c. Hans Hermann Freiherr von Berlepsch (1843–1926), former Prussian Minister of State, erected a representative manor house, the Neue Kloster (“New Monastery” or “Villa”). A hereditary burial was created by the family in the immediate vicinity in 1915. Hans-Hermann Freiherr von Berlepsch started a Prussian civil service career after his studies: • 1872: County Councillor in Kattowitz • 1881: Vice-President of the Government in Koblenz • 1884: President of the Government in Düsseldorf • 1889: Ober President of the Rhine Province In these offices, he became convinced that the German Empire needed a far more active occupational health and safety and social policy – well beyond the policies achieved under Chancellor Otto von Bismarck (in office 1871–1890). As Prussian Minister of State for Trade and Industry (1890–1896), he pushed through reforms in Germany to improve the situation of the working class, but ultimately failed due to growing resistance from economically liberal and conservative circles and had to resign. However, he continued his commitment based on his political insights: He founded the International Association for the Legal Protection of Workers, served as chairman of the Society for Social Reform, and was active as a speaker and author on a broad range of socio-political topics. In Seebach, Hans-Hermann von Berlepsch founded the infant school in the parish garden, set up a children’s home in the former Landhotel (“Country Hotel”) and had permanent residential buildings built for agricultural workers’ families in 1925. For the Seebachers who died in the First World War, he donated the oak with enclosure on the village square called “Plan”. The family itself had lost two sons in the first weeks of the war: Oberleutnant Dietrich Freiherr von Berlepsch (28 May 1879 – 27 August 1914) and Lieutenant Fritz Freiherr von Berlepsch (12 June 1888 – 28 August 1914). Their death led to the establishment of the hereditary burial near the manor house. There, Hans Hermann Freiherr von Berlepsch found his final resting place, honoured with a stately funeral procession after his death in Seebach on 2 June 1926. At his side rests his wife Franziska Freifrau von Berlepsch née von Tiele-Winkler (20 October 1855 – 2 March 1927).
