The village of Badra is located between Windleite and Kyffhäuser Mountains on the border of Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt. Badra was first mentioned in a document in 1197 as a Saxon Palatinate estate owned by Henry the Lion. A landmark of the village is a group of lime trees, which were planted more than two centuries ago for the 300th anniversary of the Reformation. Visitors are particularly impressed by the landscape around this district of the municipality of Kyffhäuserland - a paradise for nature lovers: Badra Switzerland offers a fauna and flora that is rare in Europe, with typical plants of gypsum karst areas and dry valleys with a steppe flora that has been under nature conservation for almost 100 years. The nature conservation station in the Numburg on the southern shore of the Helmestausee is a popular place for bird watching, especially in autumn, as thousands of cranes rest around the large reservoir near Kelbra on their way south. Hikers can explore the region, for example, on the supra-regional Luther Trail.

Die Naturschutzstation in der Numburg am Südufer des Helmestausees ist besonders im Herbst ein beliebter Anlaufpunkt zur Vogelbeobachtung, denn tausende Kraniche rasten auf ihrem Weg nach Süden um den großen Stausee bei Kelbra. Wanderer können die Region beispielsweise auf dem überregionalen Lutherweg erkunden.
