Historic farm on the edge of the Rhön and the Grabfeld region The "Rindhof", built by Cistercian monks, is located about 1.5 kilometers from the Maria Bildhausen monastery. Farmers lived and worked on the farm next to the monastery in the service of the Cistercians. The last abbot of Maria Bildhausen, Nirvard Schlimbach (1747-1812), had a summer residence built on the Rindhof. In 1803, in the course of secularization, the monastery was dissolved and came into the possession of the Mennonites. The abbot nevertheless lived at the Rindhof until his death in 1812. In 1897, the clergyman Dominikus Ringeisen from Ursberg acquired the former monastery and the Rindhof for his facility for people with disabilities. In 1994, the St. Josefskongregation Ursberg built one of the most extensive golf courses in Germany on the 140 hectares of former agricultural land of the monastery. The Rindhof has been privately owned since 2016 and, with its restaurant and large terrace, is also a popular destination for hikers, cyclists and nature lovers. The outdoor areas are home to works by top-class artists such as Bernar Venet, Markus Lüpertz, Beate Debus and Kurt Grimm.
