Der Viehmarkt ist neben dem Marktplatz ein weiterer großer Platz in der Altstadt von Hammelburg. Er ist mit einem Brunnen, einer großen Sitzgruppe bestehend aus zwei Bänken und einem Tisch sowie einer E-Bike-Ladestation ausgestattet. Einige große Bäume spenden an sonnigen Tagen Schatten. Vor dem großen Stadtbrand befand sich auf dem Viehmarkt, der damals noch Thürmersplatz hieß, die Marienkirche. Diese war eine Bürgerkirche, welche vermutlich Ende des 13. Jahrhunderts errichtet wurde. Diese war allerdings nicht von bester Qualität, weshalb sie ungefähr 200 Jahre später im Jahr 1505 umfangreich restauriert wurde. Nach der Gegenreformation war die Kirche wieder baufällig, weshalb am 04. Februar 1642 ein Sturmwind der Kirche großen Schaden zufüge, sodass sogar die "große Glocke zerspalten war". 1655 wurde eine neue Glocke im Turm installiert. Der Turm diente fortan als Feuerturm. Beim großen Stadtbrand im Jahr 1854 ertönte die Glocke ein letztes mal. Danach fiel die gesamte Kirche den Flammen zum Opfer. Nach dem Stadtbrand diente der Platz viele Jahre alle 14 Tage als Viehmarkt, wodurch er seinen heutigen Namen erhalten hat.
Le marché aux bestiaux est, avec la place du marché, une autre grande place de la vieille ville de Hammelburg. Il est équipé d'une fontaine, d'un grand ensemble de sièges composé de deux bancs et d'une table, ainsi que d'une borne de recharge pour vélos électriques. Quelques grands arbres offrent de l'ombre les jours ensoleillés. Avant le grand incendie de la ville, l'église Sainte-Marie se trouvait sur le marché aux bestiaux, qui s'appelait alors encore Thürmersplatz. Il s'agissait d'une église paroissiale, probablement construite à la fin du XIIIe siècle. Celle-ci n'était toutefois pas de très bonne qualité, raison pour laquelle elle fut largement restaurée environ 200 ans plus tard, en 1505. Après la Contre-Réforme, l'église était à nouveau en mauvais état, raison pour laquelle, le 4 février 1642, une tempête causa d'importants dégâts à l'église, au point que même la « grande cloche se fendit ». En 1655, une nouvelle cloche fut installée dans le clocher. Celui-ci servit dès lors de tour d'observation des incendies. Lors du grand incendie de la ville en 1854, la cloche sonna une dernière fois. Par la suite, l'église entière fut la proie des flammes. Après l'incendie, la place servit pendant de nombreuses années de marché aux bestiaux tous les 14 jours, ce qui lui valut son nom actuel.
The Viehmarkt is another large square in Hammelburg’s Old Town, located next to the Marktplatz. It features a fountain, a large seating area consisting of two benches and a table, and an e-bike charging station. Several large trees provide shade on sunny days. Before the great city fire, St. Mary’s Church stood on the Viehmarkt, which was then still called Thürmersplatz. This was a parish church, likely built at the end of the 13th century. However, it was not of the highest quality, which is why it underwent extensive restoration approximately 200 years later, in 1505. After the Counter-Reformation, the church had fallen into disrepair again, which is why a storm on February 4, 1642, caused extensive damage to the church, even splitting the “great bell.” In 1655, a new bell was installed in the tower. From then on, the tower served as a fire tower. During the great city fire of 1854, the bell rang for the last time. Afterward, the entire church fell victim to the flames. Following the fire, the square served as a livestock market every 14 days for many years, which is how it got its current name.
