It was the failed attempt for the Gänsemännchenbrunnen in Schillerstraße. The basin made of shell limestone by architect Ferdinand Streichhan was too small, so it was moved to the Reading Museum without further ado. In 1864, an animal lover - the pharmacist Theodor Lüdde - arranged for so-called dog drinkers to be set up at several fountains for dogs. A rectangular sandstone column with a gargoyle in the form of a stylised lion's head rises above it. In the background, a building with Ionic columns resembles the temple of Nike on the Acropolis. It is the main seat of the Reading Society founded by Maria Pavlovna.
Der Brunnen war der misslungene Versuch für den Gänsemännchenbrunnen in der Schillerstraße. Das Becken aus Muschelkalk von Architekt Ferdinand Streichhan war zu klein, kurzerhand versetzte man es an das Lesemuseum. Ein Tierfreund - der Apotheker Theodor Lüdde - veranlasste 1864, dass eine Hundetränke integriert wurde. Darüber erhebt sich eine rechteckige Sandsteinsäule mit einem Wasserspeier in Form eines stilisierten Löwenkopfes. Im Hintergrund zeigt sich ein Gebäude, das mit seinen ionischen Säulen dem Nike-Tempel der Akropolis gleicht. Es handelt sich um den Hauptsitz der von Maria Pawlowna gegründeten Lesegesellschaft.
