<p>Die Popperöder Quelle entstand wohl 1199 durch einen Erdfall. Sie trieb mehrere Mühlen und versorgte die Altstadt mit Wasser. Dankbar ziehen die Mühlhäuser bis heute am Brunnenfest zur Quelle. Im Jahr 1614 ließ Bürgermeister Fleischhauer das Brunnenhaus mit massivem Untergeschoss und einem Fachwerkobergeschoss mit Ecktürmchen und Zwerchgiebel errichten. Die Quelle selbst wurde im Halbrund wie ein Amphitheater mit dem Brunnenhaus als Bühne eingefasst. Entstanden ist so eine der schönsten Quellen Thüringens.</p> |

<p>The Popperode spring was created presumably in 1199 by a sinkhole. It powered several mills and supplied the old town with water. Every year in June Mühlhausen’s citizens go to the Popperode spring to celebrate the Fountain Festival and give thanks to its eternal waters. In 1614 mayor Fleischhauer had the well house built, characterised by its massive ground floor and a half-timbered upper story with corner turrets and a dwarf gable. The spring itself was enclosed like an amphitheatre with the well house forming the stage. Thus one of Thuringia’s most beautiful wells was created.</p> |
