Am 1. Mai 2026 ist Kranichfeld wieder das Ziel vieler Fahrradfahrer aus Mittelthüringen. Die nun schon traditionelle Sternradfahrt mit dem Ziel am Geburtshaus des Dichters Rudolf Baumbach, dessen Lied "Hoch auf dem gelben Wagen" auch heute noch vielen bekannt ist, lockt seit vielen Jahren Pedalritter und Familien in die frische Maienluft. 1996 gründete sich eine Interessengruppe, bestehend aus dem Förderverein Baumbachhaus Kranichfeld e.V., dem Wochenblatt für Weimar und Apolda, der Barmer Ersatzkasse Weimar, dem Landratsamt Weimarer Land und den Gebrüdern Hopf aus Weimar und noch im gleichen Jahr startete die erste familienfreundliche Mairadtour von Weimar, an der Ilm entlang, nach Kranichfeld. Ein wichtiges Ziel war damals, die Fahrradtouristik in der Region zu popularisieren und der Entwicklung und dem Bau neuer Fahrradwege Impulse zu geben. Inzwischen zieht durch das Ilmtal ein Premium-Radweg, der deutschlandweit bekannt und beliebt ist und auch viele interessante Städteverbindungen wurden geschaffen. Jahr für Jahr wuchs das Teilnehmerfeld der Mairadwanderung. Startorte sind in diesem Jahr in Apolda, Arnstadt, Blankenhain, Erfurt, Ilmenau, Jena, Stadtilm und Weimar. Außerdem wird es einen Rundkurs um Kranichfeld (25 km) mit Start und Ziel am Baumbachhaus geben. Am Baumbachplatz in Kranichfeld erwartet die Radfahrer ab 12:00 Uhr ein buntes Programm mit Musik, Tanzgruppen, einem Fahrradakrobaten, leckeren Speisen und Getränken, ein Flohmarkt und manche Überraschungen. Das Baumbachhaus und seine Ausstellungen sind geöffnet.

La même année, la première randonnée cycliste familiale du mois de mai a été organisée, de Weimar à Kranichfeld, le long de l'Ilm. L'un des objectifs importants était alors de populariser le cyclotourisme dans la région et de donner une impulsion au développement et à la construction de nouvelles pistes cyclables. Depuis, une piste cyclable haut de gamme, connue et appréciée dans toute l'Allemagne, traverse la vallée de l'Ilm et de nombreuses liaisons intéressantes entre les villes ont été créées. D'année en année, le nombre de participants à la randonnée cycliste du mois de mai n'a cessé d'augmenter. Il y aura également un circuit autour de Kranichfeld (25 km) avec départ et arrivée à la Baumbachhaus.
