Der Rat der Stadt Mühlhausen nimmt 1444 die Furthmühle unter seinem Schutz.</p><p>Die Schleuse bei der Furthmühle ist 1845 erbaut worden. Die hölzerne Brücke bei der Furthmühle, welcher der Einsturz drohte, wird 1855 durch eine steinerne Brücke ersetzt. Christoph Schollmeyer lässt 1890 die Furthmühle modernisieren. Ein 4,20 m hohes Wasserrad treibt zwei Steingänge und einen Walzenstuhl von 0,50 m Länge an. Die Sichtung erfolgt über drei Zylindersichter im Dachgeschoss.
