About: Altendambach

Altendambach ist eine kleine Gemeinde am Südhang des Thüringer Waldes. Seit Juli 2019 ist sie ein Ortsteil der Stadt Schleusingen. Die Gemeinde liegt auf einer Höhe von ca. 500 m NN, erstreckt sich auf einer Länge von ca. 1,3 km und liegt eingebettet zwischen dem „Suhler Berg“ im Norden und dem „Erlauer Berg“ im Süden. Topographisch ist Altendambach ein Straßendorf. Mitte des 14. Jahrhunderts wird „Tambach“, wie der Ort damals genannt wurde, erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Über Jahrhunderte war der Wald die Haupterwerbsquelle für die Bewohner der abgeschiedenen Waldgemeinde. Neben kargem Feldbau und Viehhaltung wirkten im Dorf vor allem Holzhauer, Stellmacher, Schindelmacher, Wagner u. Ä., aber auch Harzer, Köhler und Aschenbrenner. Dambach hatte bereits 1514 einen Förster und schon 1585 eine Schule. Im Dezember 1617 wurde nach einer Bauzeit von nur 10 Monaten die neue Kirche geweiht. Zu den bekanntesten Persönlichkeiten des Ortes gehört Johann Adam Melsheimer (1683–1757). Er war fast 40 Jahre Förster und kurpfälzischer reitender Jäger im Soonwald und wird auch als historisches Vorbild für den “Jäger aus Kurpfalz“ genannt. Heute ist Altendambach ein attraktives Dorf mit ca. 300 Einwohnern. Die Wohn- und Wirtschaftsgebäude sind meist im hennebergisch-fränkischen Fachwerkstil erbaut worden und prägen auch noch heute das Dorfbild. Die waldreiche Umgebung bietet viele Möglichkeiten für Wanderungen und Erholung in der Natur. Drei Vereine und die freiwillige Feuerwehr gestalten gemeinsam und mit großem Engagement das geistig-kulturelle und sportliche Leben im Dorf. Das neue Vereinshaus bildet den Mittelpunkt für die gesellschaftliche Tätigkeit zur Steigerung der Lebensqualität und der Förderung des Zusammenhaltes im Ort.

Outre les maigres cultures et l'élevage, le village comptait surtout des bûcherons, des charrons, des fabricants de bardeaux, des charrons et autres, mais aussi des résiniers, des charbonniers et des brûleurs de cendres. Dambach avait déjà un garde forestier en 1514 et une école en 1585. En décembre 1617, la nouvelle église fut consacrée après seulement 10 mois de travaux. Parmi les personnalités les plus connues du village, on trouve Johann Adam Melsheimer (1683-1757). Il a été garde forestier et chasseur à cheval du Palatinat électoral dans la forêt de Soon pendant près de 40 ans et est également cité comme modèle historique du "chasseur du Palatinat électoral". Aujourd'hui, Altendambach est un village attrayant d'environ 300 habitants. Les habitations et les bâtiments agricoles ont pour la plupart été construits dans le style à colombages du Henneberg et de la Franconie et marquent encore aujourd'hui l'image du village. Les environs boisés offrent de nombreuses possibilités de randonnées et de détente en pleine nature. Trois associations et les pompiers volontaires organisent ensemble et avec beaucoup d'engagement la vie spirituelle, culturelle et sportive du village. La nouvelle maison des associations constitue le centre des activités sociales visant à améliorer la qualité de vie et à promouvoir la cohésion dans le village.

Altendambach is a small community on the southern slope of the Thuringian Forest. Since July 2019 it is a district of the city Schleusingen. The community is located at an altitude of about 500 m NN, extends over a length of about 1.3 km and is nestled between the "Suhler Berg" in the north and the "Erlauer Berg" in the south. Topographically, Altendambach is a street village. In the middle of the 14th century "Tambach", as the village was called at that time, is mentioned in documents for the first time. For centuries, the forest was the main source of income for the inhabitants of the isolated forest community. In addition to meager farming and livestock, the village was mainly occupied by woodcutters, wheelwrights, shingle makers, wainwrights, etc., but also harvesters, charcoal burners and ash distillers. Dambach had a forester as early as 1514 and a school as early as 1585. In December 1617, after a construction period of only 10 months, the new church was consecrated. Johann Adam Melsheimer (1683-1757) is one of the most famous personalities of the village. He was a forester and Electoral Palatine hunter on horseback in the Soonwald for almost 40 years and is also mentioned as a historical role model for the "hunter from Electoral Palatinate". Today Altendambach is an attractive village with about 300 inhabitants. The residential and farm buildings were mostly built in the Henneberg-Franconian half-timbered style and still characterize the village today. The wooded surroundings offer many opportunities for hiking and recreation in nature. Three clubs and the voluntary fire department together and with great commitment shape the spiritual-cultural and sporting life in the village. The new clubhouse is the center for social activities to increase the quality of life and promote cohesion in the village.
