Der Eichsfeldort Lengenfeld unterm Stein, der bereits im Jahre 897 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt wird, liegt im romantischen Tal der Frieda, die beim nahe gelegenen Kloster Zella entspringt und den Ort zu einem idealen Urlaubs- und Reiseziel für Touristen und Wanderfreunde macht. Viele gut erhaltene und sorgfältig restaurierte Wohnhäuser, die einst im Fachwerkstil erbaut wurden, prägen noch heute das Bild des überwiegend katholischen Ortes. Das Dorf ist umgeben von hohen Bergen, die mit ihrem Laub- und Nadelholzbestand der Landschaft ein besonderes Gepräge geben. Charakteristisch für Lengenfeld unterm Stein sind vor allem drei Wahrzeichen, die den Besucher schon von weitem grüßen. Hoch über dem Ort liegt das in den Jahren 1747/48 im Barockstil erbaute Schloss Bischofstein, das seit jeher die Blicke vieler Besucher auf sich zieht. Derzeit wird der historische Bau weiterhin schrittweise restauriert. Heute befindet sich in den Gemäuern ein Pflegezentrum. Ein weiterer Anziehungspunkt ist die neugotische Pfarrkirche, die im Jahre 1882 erbaut wurde und noch heute zahlreiche Christen zum Gebet ruft. In der Weihnachtszeit bietet das Gotteshaus mit seiner den gesamten Altarraum ausfüllenden Krippe ein Kleinod der Region. Doch das eigentliche Wahrzeichen, das diesen Ort auch über Deutschlands Grenzen hinaus bekannt gemacht hat, ist der gewaltige Eisenbahnviadukt. Mit einer Höhe von 24 m und einer Gesamtlänge von 240 m überspannt er den gesamten Ort. Bereits im Jahr 1875 errichtet, ist er auch heute noch ein Symbol historischer Baukunst. Der Viadukt, der als Teil der sogenannten Kanonenbahn geschaffen wurde, wird heute mit Draisinen befahren und ist mit ca. 30.000 Besuchern jährlich eine Attraktion für Lengenfeld und die Region.  Parallel zur Draisinenstrecke wurde im Oktober 2019 der Kanonenbahn-Radweg mit einer Gesamtlänge von 28 km feierlich eingeweiht. Das Besondere an diesem Radweg ist die Wegführung, weitab vom Straßennetz, mit historischen Bauwerken in einem der schönsten Naturräume des Eichsfeldes. Er führt durch fünf Tunnel und über vier Brücken. Mit dem Kanonenbahn-Radweg wurde der Anschluss an den Leine-Heide-Radweg, den Unstrut-Radweg und den Werratal-Radweg fertig gestellt. Als Schmuckstück präsentiert sich der sanierte Bahnhof. Die liebevoll eingerichteten Räume, die den typischen Bahnhofscharakter widerspiegeln, bieten Platz für ca. 100 Personen. Darin befindet sich auch die Kanonenbahn-Gaststätte. Wanderwege, Ferienwohnungen und private Gästezimmer locken Touristen und Gäste, ebenso das in den Sommermonaten gut besuchte, neu gestaltete Freibad. Pferdefreunden bieten sich ausgedehnte Reitwege, um die Natur zu erkunden. Auf Grund der landschaftlich äußerst reizvollen Lage setzt die Gemeinde ihren Entwicklungsschwerpunkt auf den weiteren Ausbau der touristischen Infrastruktur und ein ausgewogenes Verhältnis von Gewerbe, Handwerk und Dienstleistungen.

Le village de l'Eichsfeld de Lengenfeld unterm Stein, mentionné pour la première fois dans un document datant de 897, est situé dans la vallée romantique de la Frieda, qui prend sa source près du monastère de Zella tout proche, ce qui en fait une destination de vacances et de voyage idéale pour les touristes et les amateurs de randonnée. De nombreuses maisons d'habitation bien conservées et soigneusement restaurées, construites autrefois dans le style des colombages, marquent encore aujourd'hui l'image de ce village essentiellement catholique. Le village est entouré de hautes montagnes qui, avec leurs feuillus et leurs conifères, donnent au paysage un caractère particulier. Lengenfeld unterm Stein se caractérise avant tout par trois emblèmes qui saluent le visiteur de loin. Le château de Bischofstein, construit dans les années 1747/48 dans le style baroque, surplombe la localité et attire depuis toujours le regard de nombreux visiteurs. Actuellement, le bâtiment historique continue d'être progressivement restauré. Aujourd'hui, les murs abritent un centre de soins. L'église paroissiale néogothique, construite en 1882 et qui appelle encore aujourd'hui de nombreux chrétiens à la prière, est un autre point d'attraction. Pendant la période de Noël, la maison de Dieu offre un joyau de la région avec sa crèche qui remplit tout le sanctuaire. Mais le véritable emblème, qui a fait connaître ce lieu au-delà des frontières allemandes, est l'énorme viaduc ferroviaire. D'une hauteur de 24 mètres et d'une longueur totale de 240 mètres, il enjambe toute la localité. Construit en 1875, il est aujourd'hui encore un symbole de l'architecture historique. Le viaduc, qui a été créé dans le cadre de la "Kanonenbahn", est aujourd'hui emprunté par des draisines et, avec environ 30.000 visiteurs par an, il constitue une attraction pour Lengenfeld et la région. Parallèlement au parcours des draisines, la piste cyclable du Kanonenbahn, d'une longueur totale de 28 km, a été inaugurée en octobre 2019. La particularité de cette piste cyclable est son tracé, loin du réseau routier, avec des bâtiments historiques dans l'un des plus beaux espaces naturels de l'Eichsfelde. Elle passe par cinq tunnels et quatre ponts. Avec la piste cyclable du Kanonenbahn, la connexion avec la piste cyclable Leine-Heide, la piste cyclable Unstrut et la piste cyclable Werratal a été achevée. La gare rénovée se présente comme un bijou. Les salles aménagées avec soin, qui reflètent le caractère typique de la gare, peuvent accueillir environ 100 personnes. Elles abritent également le restaurant du Kanonenbahn. Des sentiers de randonnée, des appartements de vacances et des chambres d'hôtes privées attirent les touristes et les hôtes, tout comme la piscine en plein air, réaménagée et bien fréquentée pendant les mois d'été. Les amateurs de chevaux disposent de vastes sentiers équestres pour explorer la nature. En raison de sa situation géographique extrêmement attrayante, la commune met l'accent sur le développement de l'infrastructure touristique et sur un rapport équilibré entre le commerce, l'artisanat et les services.

The Eichsfeld village of Lengenfeld unterm Stein, which was first mentioned in a document in 897, lies in the romantic valley of the Frieda river, which rises near the nearby Zella monastery and makes the village an ideal vacation and travel destination for tourists and hiking enthusiasts. Many well-preserved and carefully restored houses, which were once built in the half-timbered style, still characterize the image of the predominantly Catholic village today. The village is surrounded by high mountains, which give the landscape a special character with their deciduous and coniferous trees. Lengenfeld unterm Stein is characterized by three landmarks that greet visitors from afar. High above the village is Bischofstein Castle, built in 1747/48 in the Baroque style, which has always attracted the attention of many visitors. The historic building is currently being gradually restored. Today, a care center is located within its walls. Another attraction is the neo-Gothic parish church, which was built in 1882 and still calls many Christians to prayer today. At Christmas time, the church is a jewel of the region with its nativity scene filling the entire chancel. But the real landmark that has made this place famous beyond Germany's borders is the enormous railroad viaduct. With a height of 24 m and a total length of 240 m, it spans the entire village. Built back in 1875, it is still a symbol of historical architecture today. The viaduct, which was created as part of the so-called Kanonenbahn, is now used by trolleys and is an attraction for Lengenfeld and the region with around 30,000 visitors a year. Parallel to the trolley route, the Kanonenbahn cycle path with a total length of 28 km was inaugurated in October 2019. The special feature of this cycle path is its route, far away from the road network, with historic buildings in one of the most beautiful natural areas of the Eichsfeld. It leads through five tunnels and over four bridges. The Cannon Railway Cycle Route has completed the connection to the Leine-Heide Cycle Route, the Unstrut Cycle Route and the Werratal Cycle Route. The renovated railroad station is a real gem. The lovingly furnished rooms, which reflect the typical character of a railroad station, offer space for around 100 people. It also houses the Kanonenbahn restaurant. Hiking trails, vacation apartments and private guest rooms attract tourists and guests, as does the newly renovated outdoor pool, which is very popular in the summer months. Horse lovers can explore the natural surroundings on extensive bridle paths. Due to its extremely scenic location, the municipality is focusing its development on the further expansion of the tourist infrastructure and a balanced relationship between trade, crafts and services.
