About: Stadtroda

Stadtroda, a town nestled in the narrow valleys of the Roda River and its tributary streams, has much to offer in terms of scenic charm. It is said that due to its cuddly location on the rugged rocks of the red red sandstone, this lovely town belongs to the small Thuringian towns spoiled by natural beauty. Only along the Rodaaue, towards the nearby university town of Jena, does the landscape open up until it gradually rises again to the heights of the Wöllmisseberge. Here, on the Saale-Elster plateau, begins the Thuringian timber country, whose gateway is Stadtroda. At the turn of the century, two thirds of the 66 square kilometres of the Holzland were still covered with forest and shaped the way of life of the population with their down-to-earth wood craft.

Stadtroda, une ville nichée dans les vallées étroites de la rivière Roda et de ses affluents, a beaucoup à offrir en termes de charme scénique. On dit qu'en raison de son emplacement câlin sur les rochers accidentés du grès rouge, cette jolie ville fait partie des petites villes de Thuringe gâtées par la beauté naturelle. Ce n'est que le long de la Rodaaue, en direction de la ville universitaire voisine d'Iéna, que le paysage s'ouvre jusqu'à ce qu'il s'élève à nouveau progressivement vers les hauteurs des Wöllmisseberge. C'est ici, sur le plateau de Saale-Elster, que commence le pays du bois de Thuringe, dont la porte d'entrée est Stadtroda. Au début du siècle, deux tiers des 66 kilomètres carrés du Holzland étaient encore couverts de forêts et ont façonné le mode de vie de la population avec leur artisanat du bois terre à terre.

Man sagt, durch ihre anschmiegsame Lage an die schroff aufspringenden Felsen des anstehenden roten Buntsandsteins gehöre diese liebenswerte Stadt zu den von Naturschönheiten verwöhnten Thüringer Kleinstädten. Nur entlang der Rodaaue, zur nahen Universitätsstadt Jena hin, öffnet sich die Flur, bis sie wieder allmählich zu den Höhenzügen der Wöllmisseberge ansteigt. Hier, auf der Saale-Elsterplatte, beginnt das Thüringer Holzland, als dessen Eingangspforte Stadtroda gilt. Noch zur Jahrhundertwende waren zwei Drittel der 66 km² umfassenden Fläche des Holzlandes mit Wald besetzt und prägte die Lebensweise der Bevölkerung mit ihrem bodenständigen Holzhandwerk.
