Anfang des 9.Jahrhunderts wird Hornsömmern in einer Urkunde des Klosters Hersfeld erwähnt. Die Gemeinde Hornsömmern grenzt im Norden an den Kyffhäuserkreis. Die römisch-katholische Kirche „St. Maria“ aus dem 11. Jahrhundert, welche teilweise in einen romanischen Baustil erbaut wurde, steht unter Denkmalschutz. Der tonnengewölbte Saal besitzt eine dreiseitige Empore und im Chor eine Sakramentsnische. Seit 2016 nach umfangreichen Sanierungsarbeiten finden die Gottesdienste wieder in der Kirche statt. Zum Wandern lädt ein schöner Weg rund ums das Dorf, das Waldgebiet auf der Höhe „Großes Horn“, und die Streuobstwiese, die sich über mehrere Kilometer Richtung Kutzleben erstreckt, ein. Der Ort besitzt eine kleine Kegelsportanlage, die vom Kegelclub oft und gern genutzt wird. Nebenan lädt die Dorfgasstätte nach dem Kegeln zu einer Erfrischung ein. Der neu gestaltete Dorfanger mit seinem Teich sowie die gepflegten Häuser und Grünflächen prägen das Ortsbild. Der Dorfanger bildet den Mittelpunkt des gemeindlichen Lebens.

At the beginning of the 9th century Hornsömmern is mentioned in a document of the monastery Hersfeld. The municipality Hornsömmern borders in the north on the Kyffhäuserkreis. The Roman Catholic church "St. Maria" from the 11th century, which was partly built in a Romanesque architectural style, is a listed building. The barrel-vaulted hall has a three-sided gallery and a sacrament niche in the choir. Since 2016, after extensive renovation work, services have been held in the church again. A beautiful path around the village, the forest area on the height of "Großes Horn", and the orchard meadow, which stretches for several kilometers in the direction of Kutzleben, invites you to hike. The village has a small skittle sports facility, which is often and gladly used by the skittle club. Next door, the village gas station invites you to refreshment after bowling. The newly designed village green with its pond as well as the well-kept houses and green areas characterize the village. The village green is the centre of community life.

Un beau sentier autour du village, la zone forestière sur la hauteur de "Großes Horn", et la prairie du verger, qui s'étend sur plusieurs kilomètres en direction de Kutzleben, vous invite à la randonnée. Le village dispose d'une petite installation sportive de quilles, qui est souvent et volontiers utilisée par le club de quilles. À côté, la station-service du village vous invite à vous rafraîchir après le bowling. Le village est caractérisé par le nouveau vert du village avec son étang ainsi que par les maisons et les espaces verts bien entretenus. Le vert du village est le centre de la vie communautaire.
