From whichever direction you came to Erfurt - for around 20 years, one of the four "Thüringer Allgemeine" letterings on the former newspaper tower on Juri-Gagarin-Ring could be seen from all points of the compass. Even better at night, when the neon green lines outshone all the other lights in the city. It was only when the old office tower was converted into a modern residential building - the editorial office and publishing house had long since moved to Erfurt-Bindersleben - that cranes lifted the lettering to the ground. One of them now shines again in bright colors - Erfurt graffiti artist Marc Jung designed the last of the four letterings. For days, he transformed a factory building in Bindersleben into a studio and turned the vandalized billboard into a brightly coloured installation. It now draws attention to the exhibition "Ballast of the Republic" by Marc Jung in front of the Defensionskaserne. "Many of the exhibition themes can be found on the lettering," explains the artist, whose drawings are not sparing in their criticism of society and the authorities, but also denounce new, unpleasant virtues. The front is still dominated by the almost man-sized neon tubes, which glow again thanks to the strong colors from the spray can. On the back, on the other hand, Marc Jung illustrates current topics such as digital transformation, freedom of the press and opinion, freedom of speech and individual freedom. "I tried to illustrate current topics such as the transition from the old to the new media, but also the discussions about freedom of opinion and personal freedom," explains the artist. Marc Jung and TA editor-in-chief Jan Hollitzer will open the exhibition with a talk on Saturday, December 2, at 7 p.m., accompanied by music from DJ Beathova and DJ Showifact.
Quel que soit l'endroit d'où l'on venait à Erfurt, on pouvait voir pendant une vingtaine d'années l'une des quatre inscriptions "Thüringer Allgemeine" sur l'ancienne tour de presse du Juri-Gagarin-Ring. La nuit, c'était encore mieux, les lignes vert fluo éclipsaient toutes les autres lumières de la ville. Ce n'est qu'après la transformation de la vieille tour de bureaux en un immeuble d'habitation moderne - la rédaction et la maison d'édition avaient depuis longtemps déménagé à Erfurt-Bindersleben - que des grues ont hissé les inscriptions sur le sol. L'une d'entre elles brille à nouveau de couleurs vives - l'artiste graffiti Marc Jung d'Erfurt a réalisé la dernière des quatre inscriptions. Pendant plusieurs jours, il a transformé un hall d'usine de Bindersleben en atelier et transformé le panneau publicitaire défiguré par le vandalisme en une installation aux couleurs vives. Devant la caserne Defension, il attire désormais l'attention sur l'exposition "Ballast der Republik" de Marc Jung qui s'y tient. "De nombreux thèmes de l'exposition se retrouvent sur le lettrage", explique l'artiste qui, dans ses dessins, ne ménage pas ses critiques envers la société et les autorités, mais dénonce aussi de nouvelles vertus peu recommandables. Le recto est toujours dominé par les néons de presque la taille d'un homme, qui brillent à nouveau grâce aux couleurs vives de la bombe aérosol. Au verso, en revanche, Marc Jung illustre des thèmes actuels comme la transformation numérique, la liberté de la presse et d'expression, le droit de parole, la liberté individuelle. "J'ai essayé d'illustrer des thèmes actuels comme le passage des anciens aux nouveaux médias, mais aussi les discussions sur la liberté d'expression et la liberté individuelle", explique l'artiste. Marc Jung et Jan Hollitzer, rédacteur en chef de TA, inaugureront l'exposition par une discussion le samedi 2 décembre à 19 heures, DJ Beathova et DJ Showifact l'accompagneront en musique.
Von welcher Seite man auch nach Erfurt kam – rund 20 Jahre lang war aus allen Himmelsrichtungen einer der vier Schriftzüge „Thüringer Allgemeine“ auf dem ehemaligen Zeitungshochhaus am Juri-Gagarin-Ring zu sehen. Nachts sogar noch besser, dann überstrahlten die neongrünen Zeilen alle anderen Lichter der Stadt. Erst mit der Umwandlung des betagten Büroturms in ein modernes Wohnhaus – Redaktion und Verlag waren längst nach Erfurt-Bindersleben gezogen – hievten Kräne die Schriftzüge auf die Erde. Einer leuchtet jetzt wieder in knalligen Farben – der Erfurter Künstler Marc Jung hat den letzten der vier Schriftzüge gestaltet. Tagelang hat er dafür eine Werkshalle in Bindersleben in ein Atelier verwandelt und die durch Vandalismus verunstaltete Werbetafel in eine knallbunte Installation verwandelt. Vor der Defensionskaserne macht sie nun auf die dortige Ausstellung „Ballast der Republik“ von Marc Jung aufmerksam. „Viele der Ausstellungsthemen finden sich auf dem Schriftzug wieder“, erklärt der Künstler, der in seinen Zeichnungen nicht mit Kritik an Gesellschaft und Obrigkeit spart, aber auch neue, unangenehme Tugenden anprangert. Die Vorderseite wird immer noch von den fast mannshohen Neonröhren dominiert, die durch die kräftigen Farben aus der Spraydose wieder leuchten. Auf der Rückseite dagegen illustriert Marc Jung aktuelle Themen wie digitale Transformation, Presse- und Meinungsfreiheit, Rederecht, individuelle Freiheit. „Ich habe versucht, aktuelle Themen wie den Umstieg von den alten auf die neuen Medien, aber auch die Diskussionen um Meinungs- und persönliche Freiheit zu illustrieren“, erklärt der Künstler. Marc Jung und TA-Chefredakteur Jan Hollitzer eröffnen die Ausstellung mit einem Gespräch am Samstag, 2. Dezember, um 19 Uhr, DJ Beathova und DJ Showifact begleiten sie musikalisch.
