Zweck der Gesellschaft ist die Pflege und Förderung des Gesamtwerkes des in Creuzburg geborenen Komponisten und Musiktheoretikers Michael Praetorius (1571/72–1621) sowie Forschungsarbeiten im Bereich seines kulturhistorischen Umfeldes.

The Michael Praetorius Society was founded in Creuzburg/Werra in 1994.
