Sur le sentier de la canopée, on peut monter sur le toit de la forêt vierge. Et là-haut, tout est différent : le son des chants d'oiseaux est plus puissant, l'air et la lumière plus purs, les feuilles plus tendres, le ciel plus proche. Le sentier de la canopée du parc national de Hainich mène au milieu du feuillage d'imposants arbres à feuilles caduques jusqu'à leur sommet. Le sentier dévoile délicatement le secret de ces arbres géants autrement inaccessibles. Le sentier de la canopée serpente sur une longueur de 540 m depuis la partie inférieure de la canopée jusqu'au sommet des cimes des arbres de la forêt vierge. Le sentier de la canopée est donc particulièrement exposé au vent et aux intempéries. En hiver et les jours de tempête, il peut être fermé en raison des conditions météorologiques. Auf dem Baumkronenpfad kann man dem Urwald aufs Dach steigen. Und hier oben ist alles anders: Der Klang der Vogelstimmen gewaltiger, Luft und Licht reiner, die Blätter zarter, der Himmel näher. Der Baumkronenpfad im Nationalpark Hainich führt mitten durchs Blattwerk stattlicher Laubbäume bis über ihre Wipfel. Behutsam gibt der Weg das Geheimnis der sonst unerreichbaren Baumgiganten preis. Der Baumkronenpfad schlängelt sich auf einer Länge von 540 m vom unteren Kronenbereich hinauf bis zu den Spitzen der Urwald-Baumkronen. So ist der Baumkronenpfad in besonderer Weise Wind und Wetter ausgesetzt. Besonders im Winter und an sehr stürmischen Tagen kann es daher zu wetterbedingten Schließungen kommen.
