As early as 1589, there are mentions of a deserted St. Christopher's Church in Ebersdorf, which probably dates back to a late Romanesque building. In 1622, the stones from that chapel were used to build the first structure of the church that still stands today. Three years later, the church was given its tower, which housed two bells (the third bell was not added until 1849). Towards the end of the 17th century (around 1690), a crypt for the count's family was built behind the altar. It was bricked up in 1857 and reopened in 1939 to accommodate the coffins of the House of Reuss from the Lobenstein church. Ebersdorf did not become an independent parish until 1745. In 1789, a separate rectory was built next to the church to provide a home for the court preacher and his family. The royal box and the sacristy were built in 1777. In 1913, the church underwent extensive renovation. The side galleries and the pulpit altar from 1835 were removed. The baptismal font made of Saalburg marble replaced the wooden baptismal font that had been used until then. In addition, two extensions were added to the church, giving it its current characteristic appearance: to the left of the portal, a room for storing coffins was added to the church, and to the right, the staircase to the royal box was added. Inside, there are numerous works by the Ebersdorf artist Friedrich Popp (who died in 1998). These include the winged altar, a sculpture of St. Christopher, murals, and much more.
