Der einmalige Fernblick, der bei klarem Wetter bis zur Wasserkuppe in der Rhön und zum Brocken im Harz reicht, macht ihn zum beliebten Ausflugs- und Wanderziel. Unmittelbar über die Bergkuppe verläuft der berühmteste Wanderweg Thüringens: Der Rennsteig. Der Inselsberg ist der vierthöchste Berg Thüringens und als Landmarke von Norden und Westen in einem Umkreis von etwa 30 - 50 km gut zu erkennen. La vue exceptionnelle au loin, qui s'étend par temps clair jusqu'au Wasserkuppe dans la Rhön et au Brocken dans le Harz, en fait un but d'excursion et de randonnée très apprécié. Le sentier de randonnée le plus célèbre de Thuringe, le Rennsteig, passe directement par le sommet de la montagne. Là, on monte à droite dans la forêt jusqu'à la Rotenbergswiese. Traverser ce dernier. Après le refuge, on continue à gauche. Le chemin est en partie parallèle à la route, jusqu'à ce que le circuit "Schöneleite" bifurque à gauche. Suivre ce chemin jusqu'au Herrenmauer et tourner à gauche en direction du parking des remontées mécaniques (attention à la traversée de la route !). Traverser ce parking et suivre le Grauen Weg sur environ 2 km jusqu'à atteindre le Rennsteig. Tourner alors à gauche en direction du Großer Inselsberg. Après environ 400 m, il est recommandé de faire un détour par la Wartburgblick. Quitter le Grosse Inselsberg par un escalier, passer devant un parking et traverser les Reitsteine jusqu'au Grenzwiese. On peut aussi contourner les Reitsteine (très difficile) par la gauche. (Attention à la traversée de la route !) On arrive derrière l'aire de pique-nique sur un chemin forestier. On le suit jusqu'au panneau Wilder Graben, où l'on tourne à droite vers le Ritzenwiese. Ici, il est recommandé de faire un détour par le Torstein, puis de continuer à gauche au niveau de la cabane dans la vallée rocheuse et le Lauchagrund, où l'on passe à droite sur le pont et tout de suite à gauche devant le petit temple jusqu'au Massemühle. Après le petit parking, on tourne à droite, on longe la Übelbergpromenade, on passe devant la Spindlervilla, le Steinpark et la Märchenwiese pour revenir au point de départ. En face de la Märchenwiese, on peut reprendre des forces à l'hôtel Arenaris, qui propose une bonne cuisine bourgeoise. Les jours de grande chaleur, nous recommandons de faire le tour dans le sens des aiguilles d'une montre. L'avantage est que l'on monte dans la fraîcheur de la Lauchagrund.

Opposite the fairytale meadow, you can enjoy good home-style cooking at the Hotel Arenaris.</p> <p>On very hot days, we recommend walking the tour in a clockwise direction. The advantage of this is that you can walk uphill in the cool Lauchagrund.</p>
