Wussten Sie, dass vor über 200 Jahren um Bad Blankenburg herum Lavendel angebaut wurde? Nachweisen zufolge wurde damals der Anbau gewerbsmäßig um Groß- und Kleingölitz und der Burg Greifenstein, sowie auf der Seite um Watzdorf und Richtung Böhlscheiben betrieben. Der Boden und das harmonische Klima waren dort optimal für das Wachstum des Lavendels. Im Endeffekt waren diese jedoch dem großflächigen Anbau in Frankreich und England nicht gewachsen. Den angenehm duftenden Strauch, dessen Blütezeit von Juni bis August ist, finden Sie heute noch in den Parkanlagen und Grünflächen der Stadt. In Anlehnung an diese Tradition findet jedes Jahr im Sommer das Lavendelfest mit Krönung der Lavendelkönigin statt. Auf dem Lavendelweg können Sie nicht nur den Lavendelduft atmen, sondern auch herrliche Aussichten genießen, wie z.B. am Fröbelblick und der Burg Greifenstein, und Sehenswertes bestaunen.
