Die Heide ist ein vom Buntsandstein gebildetes Bergland zwischen der westlichen Orlasenke und dem Saaletal bzw. zwischen den Städten Pößneck, Saalfeld, Rudolstadt und Orlamünde. Die bergige und bewaldete Hochfläche nimmt eine Gesamtfläche von etwa 100 qkm ein und ist durchzogen von Mythen und Sagen, die in den bis zu 140 Jahre alten Bildtafeln beschrieben sind und mit den Steinkreuzen, die zum Teil aus dem Mittelalter stammen, belegt werden können. Auf dem kleinen Heiderundweg passiert man zwei Bildtafeln und ein Steinmal, mit kleinen Abstechern können weitere Steinmale und Quellen/Brunnen besichtigt werden. Direkt an der Wegstrecke liegen zwei Einkehrmöglichkeiten, das Hofcafe des Naturhotels Vitaleum in Hütten und das Gasthaus "Zum Krug" in Langenorla. Der Rundwanderweg ist gekennzeichnet von gut begehbaren Forstwegen, engen natürlichen Pfaden und Sreckenabschnitten durch idyllische kleine Dörfer. Verschiedene Aussichtspunkte laden zum Verweilen und genießen ein.

La lande est une région de montagne constituée de grès coloré entre la basse vallée de l'Orla à l'ouest et la vallée de la Saale, ou entre les villes de Pößneck, Saalfeld, Rudolstadt et Orlamünde. Le plateau montagneux et boisé couvre une surface totale d'environ 100 km² et est imprégné de mythes et de légendes, décrits sur des panneaux vieux jusqu’à 140 ans et attestés par des croix de pierre, dont certaines datent du Moyen Âge. Sur le petit parcours circulaire dans la lande, on passe devant deux panneaux et un monument de pierre, avec de petites excursions possibles pour visiter d'autres monuments de pierre ainsi que des sources et fontaines. Deux possibilités de restauration se trouvent directement sur le parcours, le café de la ferme de l'hôtel naturel Vitaleum à Hütten et la maison d'hôtes "Zum Krug" à Langenorla. Le chemin de randonnée circulaire est caractérisé par des sentiers forestiers bien praticables, des sentiers naturels étroits et des sections à travers de petits villages idylliques. Divers points de vue invitent à la détente et à la dégustation.

The heath is a sandstone-formed upland area between the western Orla valley and the Saale valley, or between the towns of Pößneck, Saalfeld, Rudolstadt, and Orlamünde.
