Parking lot at the Fuchsfarm - Entrance gate - Mülverstedter Chaussee - Site of the former Fuchsfarm - Shelter pavilion in Brunstal - Hairpin bend - Tree root - Shelter pavilion in Brunstal - Fountain - Parking lot at the Fuchsfarm
Immediately behind the parking lot at the Fuchsfarm a large sign shows the 23 stations that are explored on this route and all encourage pausing. After passing through the wooden entrance gate (Station 2), we follow the Mülverstedter Chaussee, an asphalt path (Station 3). Soon after, we stand before an hourglass (Station 4). At Station 5, we encounter poetical and philosophical quotes for the first time.
These show the close and respectful relationship renowned German and foreign natural scientists, philosophers, and poets had with nature and especially the forest.
Shortly thereafter, we reach the site of the former Fuchsfarm. Station 6 urges us to respect the inhabitants of the forest, who often cannot be seen. At a shelter hut, paths intersect. We turn left onto a gravel path. Station 7 shows us that we are at eye level with the forest floor. From there, we pass through a palisade labyrinth and arrive at a shelter pavilion in Brunstal.
We stay on the Mülverstedter Chaussee and experience more poetical and philosophical quotes (Station 8).
Representatively, the American philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 – 1872) is quoted here: “The greatest benefit that fields and forests grant us is the idea of a secret ‘kinship’ between humans and the plant world. I am not alone and unknown. They incline towards me, and I incline towards them.”
Passing a bench, we reach Station 9 with “The Artistic View.” Then Arthur Schopenhauer invites at Station 10 to “look forward.” After leaving Station 11 (palisade) behind, we leave the Mülverstedter Chaussee and keep left. At the hairpin bend (Station 12), we have reached the highest point of our route.
Our direction now changes by 180 degrees. If we look at the climatic development of our planet, such a turn by us humans is also necessary in a figurative sense. The Greek philosopher Heraclitus already urged a turnaround: “Wisdom is to speak the truth and act according to nature while listening to her.”
At Station 13, poetical and philosophical words await us again.
These come from Gusto Gräser (1879 - 1958), a German-Austrian artist and drop-out. One of his lines reads: “Become still as the deep silence of the tree! Let your feeling be convinced by its primal growth! Practice obeying that wild will, deep and still, with the feeling of your judgment.”
Station 14 shows us an impressive tree root.
Wilhelm Busch also dealt with this topic: “Even the smallest thing has its root in infinity, so it cannot be fully fathomed.”
Then Station 15 invites us to look into the forest.
In his poem about a hike in Ticino, Hermann Hesse stated: “Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to speak with them, whoever knows how to listen to them, learns the truth. They do not preach doctrines or recipes. They preach the primal law of life, unconcerned with the individual.” Already 100 years earlier, the poet Friedrich Hölderlin seemed to anticipate in his poem “To the Tree” what will come to our forests through climate change: “Happy tree! How long, how long could I still sing. And perish looking at your uplifting crown.”
Station 16 lets us look into the sky.
Here, it is thus not about looking down on nature from a viewing tower as usual, but reverently looking up from the lower branches to the treetops.
Poetical and philosophical quotes also await us at Station 17.
Alexander von Humboldt expresses respect for the trees as well: “Have reverence for the tree – it is a unique miracle.”
Station 18 (On the wrong track) also invites reflection. Appropriately, some paths intersect here.
It shows us how easy it is to get on the wrong track when one does not measure properly in times of material prosperity and does not live in harmony with nature.
After Station 19 leads as a detour to a thicket, Station 20 points to the cycle.
While today’s civilization constantly strives for progress and growth, the so-called indigenous peoples think in continuously recurring cycles like seasons, sowing and harvest, as well as becoming and passing away.
Then we reach again the shelter pavilion in Brunstal, where the paths fork. The now slightly narrower path leads us to a fountain, considered a symbol of the mysterious (Station 21).
At Station 22, we reach a shelter hut where we can look back on this wonderful route.
Søren Kierkegaard, Danish philosopher and theologian, once wrote: “Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.”
Through the wooden gate, we soon return to our starting point at the parking lot at the Fuchsfarm. |

<p><strong>Parking lot at the Fuchsfarm - Entrance gate - Mülverstedter Chaussee - Site of the former Fuchsfarm - Shelter pavilion in Brunstal - Hairpin bend - Tree root - Shelter pavilion in Brunstal - Fountain - Parking lot at the Fuchsfarm</strong></p>
<p>Immediately behind the <strong>parking lot at the Fuchsfarm</strong> a large sign shows the 23 stations that are explored on this route and all encourage pausing. After passing through the <strong>wooden entrance gate</strong> (Station 2), we follow the <strong>Mülverstedter Chaussee</strong>, an asphalt path (Station 3). Soon after, we stand before an hourglass (Station 4). At Station 5, we encounter poetical and philosophical quotes for the first time.<br />These show the close and respectful relationship renowned German and foreign natural scientists, philosophers, and poets had with nature and especially the forest.</p>
<p>Shortly thereafter, we reach the site of the <strong>former Fuchsfarm</strong>. Station 6 urges us to respect the inhabitants of the forest, who often cannot be seen. At a shelter hut, paths intersect. We turn left onto a gravel path. Station 7 shows us that we are at eye level with the forest floor. From there, we pass through a palisade labyrinth and arrive at a <strong>shelter pavilion in Brunstal.</strong><br />We stay on the Mülverstedter Chaussee and experience more poetical and philosophical quotes (Station 8).<br />Representatively, the American philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 – 1872) is quoted here: “The greatest benefit that fields and forests grant us is the idea of a secret ‘kinship’ between humans and the plant world. I am not alone and unknown. They incline towards me, and I incline towards them.”</p>
<p>Passing a bench, we reach Station 9 with “The Artistic View.” Then Arthur Schopenhauer invites at Station 10 to “look forward.” After leaving Station 11 (palisade) behind, we leave the Mülverstedter Chaussee and keep left. At the <strong>hairpin bend</strong> (Station 12), we have reached the highest point of our route.<br />Our direction now changes by 180 degrees. If we look at the climatic development of our planet, such a turn by us humans is also necessary in a figurative sense. The Greek philosopher Heraclitus already urged a turnaround: “Wisdom is to speak the truth and act according to nature while listening to her.”</p>
<p>At Station 13, poetical and philosophical words await us again.<br />These come from Gusto Gräser (1879 - 1958), a German-Austrian artist and drop-out. One of his lines reads: “Become still as the deep silence of the tree! Let your feeling be convinced by its primal growth! Practice obeying that wild will, deep and still, with the feeling of your judgment.”</p>
<p>Station 14 shows us an impressive <strong>tree root</strong>.<br />Wilhelm Busch also dealt with this topic: “Even the smallest thing has its root in infinity, so it cannot be fully fathomed.”</p>
<p>Then Station 15 invites us to look into the forest.<br />In his poem about a hike in Ticino, Hermann Hesse stated: “Trees are sanctuaries. And perish looking at your uplifting crown.”</p>
<p>Station 16 lets us look into the sky.<br />Here, it is thus not about looking down on nature from a viewing tower as usual, but reverently looking up from the lower branches to the treetops.</p>
<p>Poetical and philosophical quotes also await us at Station 17.<br />Alexander von Humboldt expresses respect for the trees as well: “Have reverence for the tree – it is a unique miracle.”</p>
<p>Station 18 (On the wrong track) also invites reflection. Appropriately, some paths intersect here.<br />It shows us how easy it is to get on the wrong track when one does not measure properly in times of material prosperity and does not live in harmony with nature.</p>
<p>After Station 19 leads as a detour to a thicket, Station 20 points to the cycle.<br />While today’s civilization constantly strives for progress and growth, the so-called indigenous peoples think in continuously recurring cycles like seasons, sowing and harvest, as well as becoming and passing away.</p>
<p>Then we reach again the <strong>shelter pavilion in Brunstal</strong>, where the paths fork. The now slightly narrower path leads us to a <strong>fountain</strong>, considered a symbol of the mysterious (Station 21).<br />At Station 22, we reach a shelter hut where we can look back on this wonderful route.<br />Søren Kierkegaard, Danish philosopher and theologian, once wrote: “Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.”</p>
<p>Through the wooden gate, we soon return to our starting point at the <strong>parking lot at the Fuchsfarm</strong>.</p> |
