Mit ihren 47km Länge verbindet die Laura-Bahn den Ilmtal-Radweg in Weimar mit dem Unstrutradweg in Sömmerda. Einst war sie eine zwar beliebte aber auch unzuverlässige Nebenverbindung, die Punktlichkeit vermissen ließ. Dass angespannte Lauern auf die Bahn brachte der Schmalspurbahn denn auch die Bezeichnung Laura ein. Die Laura-Radweg-Trasse führt auf den Spuren des alten Bahndamms durch eine ländlich-idyllische Gegend. Typisch und doch bemerkenswert sind die Hügelpassagen, die weite Blicke zu den vielen Randgebirgen des Thüringer Beckens gewähren.  In Schloßvippach befindet sich die einzig verbliebene Bahnstation, die sich im Originalzustand präsentiert. In Alperstedt kann man ein naturbelassenes Ried mit Wasserbüffeln ergründen. Lässt sich im belebten Weimar klassische Hochkultur erleben, so lädt das Städtchen Sömmerda zum ruhigen Verweilen in der sanften Unstrutaue, z.B. mit einer Kanu-Tour oder dem bestem Eis der region ein.

At 47 km in length, the Laura railway connects the Ilmtal cycle path in Weimar with the Unstrut cycle path in Sömmerda. It was once a popular but also unreliable branch line that lacked punctuality. The tense waiting times for the train earned the narrow-gauge railway the nickname Laura. The Laura cycle path route follows the old railway embankment through a rural-idyllic area. Typical yet remarkable are the hill passages that afford wide views of the many peripheral mountain ranges of the Thuringian Basin. In Schloßvippach is the only remaining railway station, presented in its original condition. In Alperstedt, you can explore a natural reed area with water buffalo. While classic high culture can be experienced in lively Weimar, the town of Sömmerda invites you to relax quietly in the gentle Unstrut floodplain, for example with a canoeing route or the best ice cream in the region.

Avec ses 47 km de longueur, le chemin de fer Laura relie la piste cyclable de la vallée de l'Ilm à Weimar à la piste cyclable de l'Unstrut à Sömmerda. Autrefois, c'était une liaison secondaire certes populaire mais aussi peu fiable, dont la ponctualité faisait défaut. La surveillance tendue portée à ce train étroit lui a valu le surnom de Laura. Le tracé de la piste cyclable Laura suit les traces de l'ancien remblai ferroviaire à travers une région rurale idyllique. Typiques et pourtant remarquables sont les passages vallonnés, offrant de larges panoramas sur les nombreux massifs périphériques du bassin de Thuringe.  À Schloßvippach se trouve la seule gare encore intacte dans son état original. À Alperstedt, on peut explorer une zone humide naturelle avec des buffles d'eau. Si Weimar animé offre la haute culture classique, la petite ville de Sömmerda invite à une pause tranquille dans la douce vallée de l'Unstrut, par exemple avec une descente en canoë ou la meilleure glace de la région.
