La séquence de chiffres gravée 157 indique une période de création entre 1570 et 1579 ; elle aurait été dressée probablement en mémoire d'une personne décédée accidentellement à cet endroit. Forêt de hêtres Depuis la croix de Craula, on continue tout droit dans la forêt. Le chemin continue à monter dans la vallée, passant devant des bancs, jusqu’à rejoindre à nouveau la route. Le randonneur suit la route vers la droite et tourne à gauche après la barrière au Pfaffenrain. The path turns left and leads down into a valley. Otterbühl At the legendary Otterbühl (465 m above sea level) there once stood a hunting lodge, where the episode "The Knight of Otterbühl" is said to have taken place. A driven young man, the Knight of Otterbühl, is said to have met three girls who loved him in the hunting lodge on dark nights. When these relationships became known and "people" were outraged, the loving Knight of Otterbühl had to flee. Before the path turns right into the Long Valley, an old quarry can be seen on the left. Gradually, the path winds down into the Long Valley to the "Goose Meadow." Long Valley In the Long Valley, the path leads up the valley floor. In the midsection of the Long Valley, the typical tree species of the ravine forest dominate – ash and maple. Also notable are oddly shaped hornbeams, which stretch their gnarled branches to the sky like little gnomes. In spring, carpets of flowers adorn the valley floor. There is another quarry in the valley. Quarries Quarries are "windows" into the underground; one can clearly see heavily fissured shell limestone layers. The material from the quarries in the Hainich was mainly used for local road construction. The path continues up the valley past benches until it reaches the main road again. The hiker follows the path to the right and turns left after the barrier at Pfaffenrain. Along Pfaffenrain Even today, five paths intersect around Pfaffenrain, but only some can be traced back to historical routes – the Rennstieg coming from Eigenrieden, the "old-time Rennweg" leading over Craula to Bad Langensalza, the "modern Rennweg" towards Alter Berg to Behringen, the road towards Ihlefeld, and the connecting path to Thiemsburg. At the forest edge, remains of the former hunting lodge "Am Pfaffenrain" can be found. Through the forest and then to the right, the hiker returns to the Craulaer Kreuz.

Ici, la plante appelée Bingelkraut forme presque uniformément un vert foncé profond, contrastant nettement avec le gris argenté des troncs de hêtre. En raison de ses fleurs unisexuées, cette plante est désignée dans les anciens livres d'herboristerie comme "petit homme" et "petite femme". Lorsque les femmes utilisaient la fleur féminine après la "période lunaire", elles avaient une fille, tandis qu'avec la fleur masculine, un garçon - un gamin en quelque sorte.</p> <p>En face, une élévation est nettement visible dans la forêt - l'Otterbühl. Le chemin tourne à gauche et descend dans une vallée.</p> <p><strong>Otterbühl</strong></p> <p>À l'Otterbühl légendaire (465 m d'altitude), il y avait autrefois un pavillon de chasse où se serait déroulée l’épisode du "Chevalier de l'Otterbühl". Un jeune homme intrépide, le chevalier de l'Otterbühl, aurait rencontré dans la maison de chasse, lors de nuits sombres, trois jeunes filles qui l'aimaient. Lorsque ces relations furent révélées à la société et provoquèrent son indignation, le chevalier amoureux dut fuir.</p> <p>Avant que le chemin ne tourne à droite vers la Vallée Longue, on aperçoit à gauche une ancienne carrière. Progressivement, le chemin sinue vers le bas de la Vallée Longue sur les "Gänserasen".</p> <p><strong>Vallée Longue</strong></p> <p>Dans la Vallée Longue, le chemin monte dans le fond de la vallée. Dans le cours moyen de la vallée Longue, dominent les espèces d'arbres typiques de la forêt en gorge – frêne et érable. On remarque aussi des charmes à la forme étrange, dont les branches noueuses s’élèvent vers le ciel, semblables à des gnomes. Au printemps, le fond de la vallée est orné de tapis de fleurs.</p> <p>Une autre carrière se trouve dans la vallée.</p> <p><strong>Carrières</strong></p> <p>Les carrières sont des "fenêtres" vers le sous-sol ; on peut y distinguer clairement des couches fortement fissurées de calcaire coquillier. Le matériau extrait des carrières dans le Hainich était principalement utilisé pour la construction des chemins locaux.</p> <p>Le chemin continue à monter dans la vallée, passant devant des bancs, jusqu’à rejoindre à nouveau la route. Le randonneur suit la route vers la droite et tourne à gauche après la barrière au Pfaffenrain.</p> <p><strong>Le long du Pfaffenrain</strong></p> <p>Autour du Pfaffenrain, cinq chemins se croisent encore aujourd'hui, mais seulement certains peuvent être rattachés à des chemins historiques – la Rennstieg venant d'Eigenrieden, l'"ancien chemin de course" passant par Craula vers Bad Langensalza, le "nouveau chemin de course" en direction de l'Alter Berg vers Behringen, la route vers Ihlefeld et le chemin de liaison à la Thiemsburg. À la lisière de la forêt se trouvent les vestiges de l'ancien pavillon de chasse "Am Pfaffenrain".</p> <p>En traversant la forêt, puis en tournant à droite, le randonneur revient à la croix de Craula.</p>
