He spent a spa stay in the cold-water bathing establishment of Elgersburg in the years 1905 and 1906. During this time he painted several landscape paintings in and around Elgersburg. Munch probably created 16 artworks during his spa stay in Elgersburg. Most of these are now on display at the Munch Museum in Oslo.
