Sie besitzt Anbindungen in Richtung Wurzbach und Reichenbach (Oberfranken).Die Wetzsteinloipe verläuft zu 90% auf bzw. parallel zu gekennzeichneten Wanderwegen, deren Wanderwegweiser zusätzliche Orientierungshilfe bieten. An allen Kreuzungspunkten wurden Skiwanderwegkennzeichen angebracht, so dass der Skiläufer sein Ziel nicht verfehlen kann. Durch den leichten Verlauf eignet sich die Skitour am Wetzstein auch für ungeübte Skiläufer und Familien sehr gut. Im Verlauf liegen die Schutzhütten am Kurfürstenstein und die Jagdhütte Kreuzstraße sowie die Wanderhütte des Thüringer-Wald-Vereins. Höchster Punkt des Skiwanderweges ist der 793 m hohe Wetzstein, auf dessen Gipfel der Altvaterturm trohnt. Hier bietet sich eine Rast in der Turmgaststätte an. Wer weiter laufen will erreicht relativ schnell den "Schieferpark" und kann auch dort einkehren.

It has connections towards Wurzbach and Reichenbach (Upper Franconia). The Wetzstein trail runs 90% on or parallel to marked hiking paths, whose trail markers provide additional orientation aid. Ski hiking trail signs are attached at all intersections, so skiers cannot lose their way. Due to its gentle route, the ski tour at Wetzstein is also very suitable for inexperienced skiers and families. Along the way are the shelters at Kurfürstenstein and the hunting lodge Kreuzstraße as well as the hiking lodge of the Thuringian Forest Club. The highest point of the ski hiking trail is the 793 m high Wetzstein, on whose summit the Altvater Tower towers. Here a rest in the tower restaurant is possible. Those who want to continue skiing can quickly reach the “Schieferpark” and also stop there.

Le parcours possède des connexions en direction de Wurzbach et Reichenbach (Haute-Franconie). La piste Wetzstein suit à 90 % des sentiers de randonnée balisés ou parallèles, dont les panneaux offrent un repère supplémentaire. À tous les carrefours, des panneaux de randonnée skiable ont été installés afin que le skieur ne puisse pas se perdre. Grâce à son tracé facile, cette randonnée à ski sur le Wetzstein convient très bien aux skieurs débutants et aux familles. On trouve le long du parcours les cabanes de repos au Kurfürstenstein, la cabane de chasse Kreuzstraße ainsi que la cabane de randonnée du club de la Forêt de Thuringe. Le point le plus haut du sentier de randonnée à ski est le Wetzstein, haut de 793 m, sur le sommet duquel trône la tour Altvater. Une pause est possible à la taverne du sommet. Ceux qui souhaitent poursuivre leur course atteindront rapidement le "Schieferpark" et pourront s’y arrêter également.
