About: Hiking tour to the Mühlhausen springs and ponds, Wandertour zu den Mühlhäuser Quellen und Teichen, Parcours de randonnée vers les sources et étangs de Mühlhausen

The start and finish in Mühlhausen is the stadium on the Aue. Along the Schwanenteichallee (footpath and cycle path), the route first heads west. After 550 m, the path leads past the open-air swimming pool, the Schwanenteich cultural centre and the Cafè Cabana. After one kilometre, you pass the premises of the Mühlhausen e.V. fishing club, with boards on the history of fishing. Further along Schwanenteichallee, red brick buildings of the waterworks can be seen on the right. Soon after, there is a private house with a garden, where there is a rich salt spring (formerly called "Salt Spring in Sander's Garden"), but which is not accessible. After 1.5 km you come to the enclosed spring "Grundloch". The building was constructed in 1896. The "Grundloch" spring belongs to the Zweckverband Trinkwasserversorgung Mühlhausen und Unstruttal. Shortly afterwards, we come to the Popperöder Brunnenhaus, built in 1614, with the Popperöder spring dating back to 1199. In the lower, open arcade hall, there are plaques on the construction and the significance of the house and spring. Immediately behind it, our tour turns left from the Schwanenteichallee into the Quellenweg (Unstrut-Werra-Radweg/Lutherweg/red route). After a total of 2 km, our route continues to the left, into Thomasteichweg. At km 2.5, it passes a fenced-in drinking water withdrawal point onto a wide, hard gravel path. Also at km 3.1, we follow the signs to the "Lutherweg" and pass a rest area, on the path next to the Heyröder Landstraße. After 3.5 km, we meet the Jacobs Fountain on the left side of the road, within sight of Gut Weidensee. There is also a stone table and stone benches there, about 10 m next to the Felchtaer Bach stream. The Jacobs Fountain is surrounded by willow trees, but it does not "pour" in all seasons. From there, we turn back along the Heyröder Landstraße until just before the road bends. At kilometre 4.1, the trail turns left onto a dirt road and continues to the Thomasteichen. Just before the shore, the trail turns right over a small stone bridge along the water. After 4.6 km, a small, inconspicuous path turns right, slightly uphill. After about an hour's hike, you reach the Thomasquelle spring surrounded by trees. The Thomasquelle was formed in 1901 by a sinkhole and strengthens the large Thomas Pond with salty karst water. When the sinkhole was formed, this spring was 55 m deep and is still considered the deepest spring in Thuringia. But please be careful, the water is not suitable for bathing or drinking. Our path leads us back to the large Thomasteich, left again to the small stone bridge. The large Thomasteich was created in 1607 and the small Thomasteich in 1616 (chronicles by Dr. Altenburg and Prof. Jordan). The ponds are popular destinations for excursionists and anglers. Guest tickets for fishing are available from the Mühlhausen angling club (no boat fishing). The most frequently caught fish are carp, pike, eel, perch and tench. The most successful fishing method is bottom fishing. If you look around and are lucky, you will occasionally find nesting sites of beavers, which are spreading out again or are on the move. On the shore of the large Thomasteich and before the small Thomasteich to the left, you come back to the Thomasteichweg at 5.5 km. From there, turn right and walk in the opposite direction until you reach the intersection with the Quellenweg. From there, turn right at 6.5 km into Popperöder Gasse, past Haage's Hof to the left at 7.3 km to Schwanenteich. Turn right there, past the open-air swimming pool, boat rental and children's playground, continue past the Eiscafè am Schwanenteich and back to the Stadion an der Aue. This tour to the Mühlhausen springs and ponds is suitable as a hike, for families, as a Nordic walking tour or as a bicycle tour (on the shore path at the Thomasteichen and to the Thomasquelle, the bicycles are to be pushed or left at the car park, in front of the small stone bridge).

Le départ et l'arrivée se situent à Mühlhausen, au stade an der Aue. En suivant l’avenue Schwanenteich (piste piétonne et cyclable), on part d'abord vers l’ouest. Après 550 m, le chemin passe devant la piscine extérieure, le site culturel Schwanenteich et le café Cabana. Après un kilomètre, on arrive au terrain du club de pêche Mühlhausen e.V., avec des panneaux sur l’histoire de la pêche. Plus loin sur Schwanenteichallee, on aperçoit des bâtiments en briques rouges de la station de pompage à droite. Peu après se trouve une maison privée avec jardin où se trouve une source saline importante (anciennement appelée « source saline dans le jardin de Sanders »), mais inaccessible. Après 1,5 km, on atteint la source aménagée « Grundloch ». Le bâtiment date de 1896. La source « Grundloch » appartient à l'association de gestion de l'eau potable de Mühlhausen et Unstruttal. Peu après, on rencontre la maison de la fontaine Popperöder construite en 1614, avec la source Popperöder datant de 1199. Dans la salle d’arcades ouverte se trouvent des panneaux sur la construction et l’importance de la maison et de la source. Juste après, la route quitte Schwanenteichallee pour tourner à gauche dans Quellenweg (également piste cyclable Unstrut-Werra, chemin de Luther, route rouge). Après 2 km, on tourne encore à gauche sur Thomasteichweg. Au km 2,5, on passe un point de prélèvement d'eau potable clôturé, puis on arrive sur un chemin large et solide en gravier. Aussi au km 3,1, on suit la signalisation Lutherweg et on passe une aire de repos près de la route Heyröder Landstraße. Au km 3,5, on atteint côté gauche, en vue du domaine Gut Weidensee, la fontaine Jacobs. Il y a aussi une table en pierre et des bancs en pierre, à environ 10 m du ruisseau Felchtaer Bach. La fontaine Jacobs est entourée de saules, mais elle ne coule pas à toutes les saisons. De là, on revient le long de la route Heyröder Landstraße jusqu’à juste avant un virage. Au km 4,1, le chemin tourne à gauche sur un chemin de campagne et continue vers les étangs Thomas. Juste avant la rive, on tourne à droite sur un petit pont en pierre qui longe l’eau. Après 4,6 km, un petit chemin discret monte légèrement vers la droite. Après environ une heure de marche, on atteint la source Thomas entourée d’arbres. La source Thomas s'est formée en 1901 à la suite d'un effondrement de terrain et alimente l'étang Thomas avec de l'eau karstique salée. Lors de la formation de l'effondrement, cette source était à 55 m de profondeur et reste la source la plus profonde de Thuringe. Veuillez cependant faire attention, cette eau n'est pas adaptée à la baignade ni à la consommation. Le chemin revient vers le grand étang Thomas, puis à gauche vers le petit pont en pierre. Le grand étang Thomas a été aménagé en 1607, le petit en 1616 (chroniques du Dr Altenburg et du Prof. Jordan). Ces étangs sont des destinations prisées des promeneurs et des pêcheurs. Des cartes de pêche sont disponibles auprès du club de pêche Mühlhausen (pêche sans bateau). Les poissons les plus prisés sont la carpe, le brochet, l’anguille, le sandre et la tanche. La méthode la plus efficace est la pêche au fond. En observant bien et avec un peu de chance, on trouve parfois aussi des traces de castors qui se répandent à nouveau ou sont en migration. Au bord du grand étang Thomas et avant le petit étang Thomas, on reprend à gauche le chemin Thomasteichweg au km 5,5. De là, à droite, en sens inverse, on rejoint l’intersection avec Quellenweg. Ensuite, à droite, au km 6,5, dans la ruelle Popperöder, on passe devant la ferme Haage's Hof jusqu'à 7,3 km, puis à gauche vers l’étang aux cygnes. Juste après, on tourne à droite, passe devant la piscine, la location de bateaux et l’aire de jeux pour enfants, continue devant le glacier au bord de l’étang aux cygnes, pour revenir au stade an der Aue. Ce parcours vers les sources et étangs de Mühlhausen convient aussi bien pour une randonnée, en famille, une balade nordique ou en vélo (sur les chemins au bord des étangs Thomas et jusqu’à la source Thomas, il faut pousser les vélos ou les laisser sur le parking devant le petit pont en pierre).

Start und Ziel ist in Mühlhausen das Stadion an der Aue. Entlang der Schwanenteichallee (Fuß- und Radweg) geht es zunächst in Richtung Westen. Nach 550 m führt der Weg vorbei  am Freibad, der Kulturstätte Schwanenteich und dem Cafè Cabana. Nach einem Kilometer kommt man am Gelände des Angelverein Mühlhausen e.V., mit Tafeln zur Geschichte der Fischerei vorbei. Weiter auf der Schwanenteichallee sind rechts rote Backsteingebäude des Wasserwerkes zu sehen. Bald danach kommt ein privates Haus mit Garten, in dem es eine ergiebige Salzquelle gibt (früher genannt "Salzquelle in Sanders Garten"), die aber nicht zugänglich ist. Nach 1,5 km kommt man an die umbaute Quelle "Grundloch". Das Gebäude wurde 1896 erbaut. Die Quelle "Grundloch" gehört zum Zweckverband Trinkwasserversorgung Mühlhausen und Unstruttal. Kurz danach treffen wir auf das 1614 errichtete Popperöder Brunnenhaus, mit der bereits 1199 entstandenen Popperöder Quelle. In der unteren, offenen Arkadenhalle sind Tafeln zum Bau und der Bedeutung von Haus und Quelle vermerkt. Gleich dahinter biegt unsere Tour von der Schwanenteichallee nach links in den Quellenweg ein (Unstrut-Werra-Radweg/Lutherweg/rote Route). Nach gesamt 2 km geht unser Weg weiter nach links, in den Thomasteichweg. Bei Kilometerstand 2,5 führt er an einer eingezäunten Trinkwasserentnahmestelle vorbei auf einen breiten, festen Schotterweg. Auch bei Kilometer 3,1 folgen wir der Ausschilderung "Lutherweg" und passieren dort einen Rastplatz, am Weg neben der Heyröder Landstraße. Nach 3,5 km treffen wir auf der linken Straßenseite, in Sichtweite von Gut Weidensee, den Jacobs-Brunnen. Dort stehen auch ein Steintisch und Steinbänke, etwa 10 m neben dem Felchtaer Bach. Der Jacobs-Brunnen ist von Weidenbäumen umgeben, er "schüttet" aber nicht zu allen Jahreszeiten. Von da ab wenden wir uns zurück, entlang der Heyröder Landstraße bis kurz vor der Straßenkurve. Bei Kilometer 4,1 führt der Weg nach links auf einen Feldweg und weiter zu den Thomasteichen. Kurz vor dem Ufer geht es nach rechts über eine kleine Steinbrücke am Wasser entlang. Nach 4,6 km biegt ein kleiner, unscheinbarer Weg nach rechts, leicht ansteigend ab. Nach etwa einer Stunde Wanderung erreicht man die von Bäumen umrandete Thomasquelle. Die Thomasquelle entstand 1901 durch einen Erdfall und verstärkt den großen Thomasteich mit salzhaltigem Karstwasser. Bei der Entstehung des Erdfalles war diese Quelle 55 m tief und gilt noch heute als die tiefste Quelle in Thüringen. Aber bitte Vorsicht, dass Wasser ist nicht zum Baden und Trinken geeignet. Unser Weg führt uns zurück zum großen Thomasteich, wieder links zur kleinen Steinbrücke zurück. Der große Thomasteich wurde 1607 und der kleine Thomasteich 1616 angelegt (Chroniken von Dr. Altenburg und Prof. Jordan). Die Teiche sind beliebte Ziele für Ausflügler und Angler. Gästekarten zum Angeln sind beim Anglerverein Mühlhausen erhältlich (kein Bootsangeln). Die am häufigsten gefangenen Fische sind Karpfen, Hecht, Aal, Flussbarsch und Schleie. Die erfolgreichste Angelmethode ist das Grundangeln. Wer sich umschaut und Glück hat, findet ab und an auch Nagestellen von Bibern, die sich wieder ausbreiten oder auf Wanderschaft sind. Am Ufer des großen Thomasteiches und vor dem kleinen Thomasteich nach links, kommt man bei 5,5 km wieder auf den Thomasteichweg. Von dort rechts, in umgekehrte Richtung gelangt man bis zur Kreuzung mit dem Quellenweg. Von da nach rechts, bei Kilometer 6,5, in die Popperöder Gasse, vorbei an Haage's Hof bis 7,3 km nach links zum Schwanenteich. Dort gleich nach rechts, vorbei am Freibad, Bootsverleih und Kinderspielplatz, weiter über das Eiscafè am Schwanenteich und zurück zum Stadion an der Aue. Diese Tour zu den Mühlhäuser Quellen und Teichen ist sowohl als Wanderung, für Familien, als Nordic Walking Tour oder als Radtour geeignet (Auf dem Uferwege an den Thomasteichen und zur Thomasquelle sind die Fahrräder zu schieben oder am Parkplatz, vor der kleinen Steinbrücke stehen zu lassen.).
