Die Pilger sind als Botschafter unterwegs, Sie verkündigen das Jubiläum „500 Jahre Bibelübersetzung“ von Station zu Station. Die Route verbindet Luthers Wirkungsstätten miteinander. Sie beginnt auf der Wartburg, wo er als Junker Jörg lebte, und endet an der Schlosskirche von Wittenberg, dem Ort an dem Luther seine 95 Thesen anschlug. Auf der fast 400 km langen Stecke werden zahlreiche Lutherstationen angelaufen. Damit ist die Tour eine besonderes Erlebnis der Welt- und Kirchengeschichte. Überwiegend werden Lutherwege in Thüringen und Sachsen-Anhalt gefolgt, die mit dem „grüner Luther-L“ gekennzeichnet sind.
