Notre parcours de randonnée débute dans le centre-ville de Gehren à la ruine du château de Gehren. Il y a également la possibilité de se garer ici. Le chemin passe par l'allée du château, la rue "Zum Schlosspark" et la Langebergstraße jusqu'au petit monument Karl-Günther (il y a aussi un parking). Sur des chemins finement gravillonnés, on suit d'abord le "parcours circulaire de Gehren" jusqu'à la tombe du chien. Une cabane de randonnée invite à la pause. En suivant le "Wurzelkurtpfad", on atteint la maison Karl-Günther puis l'ancien chalet de chasse (utilisé brièvement comme musée des contrebandiers). Nous atteignons maintenant notre destination, le monument Langeberg du prince Karl-Günther avec cabane de randonnée. Le randonneur est récompensé par une vue magnifique sur la campagne.

Our hiking trail starts in the town center of Gehren at the ruins of Gehren Castle. Parking is also possible here. Unser Wanderweg startet im Stadtzentrum von Gehren an der Ruine des Gehrener Schlosses. Hier besteht auch die Möglichkeit zu parken. Der Weg führt über die Schlossallee, die Straße "Zum Schlosspark" und die Langebergstraße zum kleinen Karl - Günther Denkmal  ( hier besteht auch die Möglichkeit zu parken ). Auf feinen Schotterwegen geht es zuerst über den "Rundwanderweg Gehren" zum Hundegrab. Eine Wanderhütte lädt zur Rast ein. Weiter auf dem "Wurzelkurtpfad" erreichen wir das Karl - Günther Haus und anschließend das ehemalige Jagdhäuschen ( kurzzeitig als Wilderermuseum genutzt ). Jetzt haben wir unser Ziel erreicht, das Langebergdenkmal Fürst Karl - Günther mit Wanderhütte. Der Wanderer wird mit einer herrlichen Aussicht ins Land belohnt.

schema:caption Das Denkmal entstand in den Jahren 1911 bis 1912 auf Initiative des Thüringer-Wald-Vereins Gehren. Grundgedanke war die Ehrung des verstorbenen Landesfürsten Karl Günther von Schwarzburg – Sondershausen, der mit seiner Gattin Marie häufig im zur Oberherrschaft gehörenden Schloss Gehren weilte. Die Stiftung der Fürstenwitwe, eine drei Meter hohe Statue ihres Gemahls, verlangte einen monumentalen Aufbau.Das Bronzestandbild des Fürsten als Jäger, modelliert von dem Weimarer Bildhauer Arnold Zauche, kam auf der obersten, der drei Ebenen zur Aufstellung. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde die Statue abgebaut und auf dem „Glockenfriedhof“ Hamburg deponiert. Dort verliert sich die Spur Mitte der 70er Jahre. Heute existiert eine Nachbildung des Bronzestandbildes von einst. Mehrere Schönheitsreparaturen, die letzte 1991 durch den Förderverein "Langer Berg" e.V. konnten den Verfall des Denkmals nicht aufhalten, es bestand Einsturzgefahr. Erst im September 2002 waren die finanziellen Voraussetzungen über das LEADER+ - Programm der Europäischen Union - gemeinsam mit dem Arbeitsamt und der Oberen Denkmalbehörde des Landes Thüringen  zum Wiederaufbau und für die Sanierung der Gedächtnishalle geschaffen. Die Arbeiten konnten im Mai 2004 abgeschlossen werden. Das gesamte Ensemble wurde am 20. und 21. Mai 2004 der Öffentlichkeit übergeben. Das Lange Berg-Denkmal ist über gut beschilderte Wanderwege von Gehren, Herschdorf, Möhrenbach, Pennewitz und Willmersdorf erreichbar (längste Strecke ca. 5km). Wanderparkplätze befinden sich in Gehren, Herschdorf und Willmersdorf. Oben angekommen, genießen Sie bei klarer Sicht einen atemberaubenden Ausblick in das Thüringer Land bis hin zu den Erhebungen des Harzes und des Kyffhäusers im Norden sowie zum Rennsteig und in das Saaletal im Süden. Der Blick wurde 2016 als einer der schönsten Aussichtspunkte Südthüringens gekürt.
