Le parcours Naturpark-Weg Domberg relie le parking de randonnée au Naturpark-Tor Suhl au Domberg, la montagne locale de Suhl de 675 mètres. The Domberg Nature Park Trail leads from the parking area at the Naturpark-Tor Suhl up to the 675 meter high local mountain of Suhl, the Domberg. The Nature Park Trail imparts knowledge about mountain meadows, mining and its history, as well as the nature around Suhl. The Ottilien Chapel and the observation tower on the Domberg are particularly worthwhile viewpoints and historic buildings. They offer charming views of the Thuringian Forest and the city of Suhl. In spring and autumn, the short circular route through the light beech forest is a special experience. The Nature Park Trail also leads to the 3-kilometer-long Domberg mining hiking trail. Its information panels describe the centuries-long history of iron ore mining for the weapons city of Suhl. Remains of pits and waste heaps are clearly visible along the path. Already 500 years ago, a small chapel attracted miners to the Domberg to serve as a place of worship since working in the ore pits was dangerous.

Der Naturpark-Weg vermittelt Wissen über Bergwiesen, den Bergbau und seine Geschichte sowie die Natur rund um Suhl. Die Ottilienkapelle und der Aussichtsturm auf dem Domberg sind besonders lohnende Aussichtspunkte und zugleich historische Bauten. Sie bieten reizvolle Ausblicke auf den Thüringer Wald und die Stadt Suhl. Im Frühjahr und Herbst ist die kurze Rundtour durch den lichten Buchenwald ein besonderes Erlebnis. Der Naturpark-Weg führt zudem zum 3 Kilometer langen Bergbauwanderweg Domberg. Dieser beschreibt auf seinen Informationstafeln die jahrhundertelange Geschichte der Eisenerzförderung für die Waffenstadt Suhl. Am Wegrand sind die Reste von Gruben und Abraumhalden deutlich erkennbar. Bereits vor 500 Jahren lockte am Domberg eine erste kleine Kapelle die Bergleute an und diente ihnen als Andachtsraum, denn die Arbeit in den Erzgruben war gefährlich.

Le chemin mène par des sentiers naturels à la tour d'observation de 21 m de haut sur le Domberg. Avant cela, une courte pause est possible à l'emblème de Suhl, la chapelle Ottilienkapelle. Depuis 1843, elle remplace l'ancienne chapelle. Construite sur un rocher appelé Ottilienstein, elle offre une vue impressionnante sur la ville de Suhl. L'auberge autrefois voisine a été détruite par des tirs lors des derniers jours de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Il n'en reste que des vestiges visibles.</p>

In spring, the scent of sweet woodruff accompanies the hiker, in summer the large beeches provide shade, and in autumn their leaves rustle underfoot. The hiking trail crosses the southern margin fault of the Thuringian Forest where rich ore deposits have been uplifted. These provided the basis for the production of weapons. The trail leads on natural paths to the 21 m high observation tower on the Domberg. Beforehand, a short rest at Suhl’s landmark, the Ottilien Chapel, is recommended. It has replaced the old chapel since 1843. Built on a rock called Ottilienstein, it offers an impressive view over the city of Suhl. The formerly adjacent inn was destroyed by shelling in the last days of World War II. Only remnants of it remain visible.</p>
