Die Wanderung führt um mehrere ehemalige untermeerische Riffe herum. Sie startet entweder am Fuß des Burgbergs Ranis, der ebenfalls ein Riff darstellt oder am Haltepunkt Krölpa-Ranis. Von dort wandert man an den Riffen der Teufelskanzel, des Pinsenbergs, des Buchenbergs und des Hausbergs entlang. Zur Zeit des Zechsteins (Oberes Perm, vor 258 - 252 Mio. Jahren) befand sich hier die Küste eines Meeres. Dieser Küste waren Riffe vorgelagert, die im wärmeren Lagunenwasser aus Cyanobakterien und Bryozoen emporwuchsen. Für den aufmerksamen Beobachter sind diese vor Jahrmillionen existierenden Riffe heute noch in der Landschaft zwischen Könitz (Schlossberg) und Neustadt an der Orla erkennbar. Sie bilden deutliche Erhebungen, Berge und Klippen, die aus hellem Kalksteinkonglomerat bestehen. Einige von ihnen sind bewaldet. Auf anderen wachsen Trocken- und Halbtrockenrasen mit einer kalkliebenden Pflanzenwelt. Der Pinsenberg und der Buchenberg sind deshalb ausgewiesene Naturschutzgebiete. In den Höhlen der Kalksteinfelsen leben Fledermäuse und andere schützenswerte Arten. Die abwechslungsreiche Landschaft und die vielfältige Fauna und Flora dieser ehemaligen Riffe machen den Reiz des Orlatals im Raum Pößneck-Ranis-Krölpa und darüber hinaus aus. Entlang des Erlebnispfades befinden sich zwei optionale Stichwege, welche die Wanderung zum Einen mit der Teufelskanzel und der Herthahöhle und zum Anderen mit der Burg Ranis und der Ilsenhöhle am Ende der Tour verbinden.

La randonnée fait le tour de plusieurs anciens récifs sous-marins. Elle commence soit au pied de la colline du château de Ranis, qui est également un récif, soit à l'arrêt Krölpa-Ranis. Sur d'autres poussent des pelouses sèches et semi-sèches avec une flore calcicole. Le Pinsenberg et le Buchenberg sont donc des zones protégées. Dans les grottes des falaises calcaires vivent des chauves-souris et d’autres espèces dignes de protection. Le paysage varié et la faune et la flore diversifiées de ces anciens récifs font tout le charme de l’Orlatal dans la région Pößneck-Ranis-Krölpa et au-delà. Le long du sentier d'expérience se trouvent deux chemins secondaires optionnels, qui relient la randonnée d’une part avec la Teufelskanzel et la grotte Hertha, et d’autre part avec le château de Ranis et la grotte Ilse à la fin du parcours.

The hike leads around several former underwater reefs. It starts either at the foot of the Ranis castle hill, which also represents a reef, or at the Krölpa-Ranis stop. From there, you hike along the reefs of Devil's Pulpit, Pinsenberg, Buchenberg, and Hausberg. At the time of the Zechstein (Upper Perm, about 258 - 252 million years ago), this area was the coast of a sea. Ahead of this coast were reefs that grew in the warmer lagoon water from cyanobacteria and bryozoans. For the attentive observer, these reefs that existed millions of years ago are still visible in the landscape between Könitz (Schlossberg) and Neustadt an der Orla. They form distinct elevations, mountains, and cliffs made of light limestone conglomerate. Some are forested. Others have dry and semi-dry grasslands with a lime-loving plant community. Pinsenberg and Buchenberg are therefore designated nature reserves. Bats and other protected species live in the caves of the limestone rocks. The varied landscape and diverse fauna and flora of these former reefs create the charm of the Orla Valley in the Pößneck-Ranis-Krölpa area and beyond. Along the adventure trail are two optional side paths that connect the hike on one hand with the Devil's Pulpit and Hertha Cave, and on the other hand with Castle Ranis and Ilsen Cave at the end of the route.
