Ideal for beginners who want to improve their skills.

Red trails: They include more demanding sections with steeper climbs, technical passages, and possibly uneven ground. Riders here should already have experience and a certain riding technique.

Black trails: They feature extreme inclines, technical difficulties such as roots, rocks, or tight corners, and require a high level of skill and fitness. Suitable only for the bravest and most experienced.

The colors thus indicate different technical difficulty levels. The entire trail is marked at the corresponding highest difficulty if the hardest section is not bypassable. Regarding endurance and fitness, you should orient yourself best by the distance and elevation gain.

Trail use & forest restructuring

In times of bark beetle infestation and forest restructuring, we ask for your understanding that not every path is always perfectly rideable, you may have to push sometimes or accept a detour. We are in exchange together with ThüringenForst and all forest owners and try our best to ensure recreation in the forest remains possible for everyone. Thank you for your understanding and mutual consideration… our forest concerns us all!

TRAIL RULES

RIDE ONLY ON PATHS Never ride cross-country, you otherwise damage nature! Respect local path closures! Forestry, cattle drives, and nature conservation concerns justify this. Local closures may also be justified in recreation areas. The way you ride determines the actions of authorities and administrations. On private land, you are often just tolerated.

LEAVE NO TRACES Do not brake with locked wheels (except in emergencies)! Locked wheel braking promotes soil erosion and causes path damage. Adjust your riding style to the ground and trail conditions. Not every trail tolerates every braking maneuver and riding style.

KEEP YOUR MOUNTAIN BIKE UNDER CONTROL Inattention, even for a few seconds, can cause an accident. Adjust your speed to the situation. Pedestrians, obstacles, or other riders can appear at any time on blind sections. You must be able to stop within sight! For your own safety and that of others.

RESPECT OTHER NATURE USERS Announce your passing early. Do not startle other path users! Reduce your speed to walking speed when passing or stop. Keep in mind that other users might perceive you too late. Ride in small groups if possible.

CONSIDER ANIMALS Grazing animals and all other animals in forest and fields require special consideration! Close pasture fences after you pass them. Leave the forest in good time before dusk to avoid disturbing animals during feeding.

PLAN AHEAD Start your route as close as possible to your doorstep. Check your equipment, assess your skills accurately, and choose the area where you want to ride accordingly. Bad weather or a breakdown can significantly extend your route. Be prepared for unforeseen situations: think of tools, provisions, and a first aid kit. Wear safety equipment! A helmet can protect but is not a life insurance.
