Die Burg Seebach wurde Mitte des 13. Jahrhunderts von einer ortsansässigen Ritterfamilie errichtet. Die Anlage bestand aus zwei parallel angeordneten Rechteckbauten, die von einem Wassergraben und einer Zwingermauer umgeben waren. 1523 ging Seebach in den Besitz der Herren von Berlepsch über. Nach teilweiser Zerstörung 1525 im Bauernkrieg wurde die Burg zum Schloss umgebaut. Dr. phil. h.c. Hans Freiherr von Berlepsch (1857–1933) schuf als begeisterter Ornithologe 1884/85 einen Vogelschutzpark und ließ den Familiensitz von 1911 bis 1914 vogelschutzgerecht umbauen. Seine private Einrichtung wurde 1908 als erste ihrer Art eine „Staatlich anerkannte Versuchs- und Musterstation für Vogelschutz“. Heute ist die „Staatliche Vogelschutzwarte Seebach“ Teil der Fachbehörde im „Thüringer Landesamt für Umwelt, Bergbau und Naturschutz“ (TLUBN) und das Schloss Sitz der Verwaltung des Nationalparks Hainich.

Le château de Seebach a été construit au milieu du XIIIe siècle par une famille de chevaliers originaire de la région. Le complexe se composait de deux bâtiments rectangulaires disposés parallèlement, entourés d’un fossé et d’un mur d’enceinte. En 1523, Seebach est passé aux mains des seigneurs de Berlepsch. Après avoir été partiellement détruit en 1525 lors de la guerre des paysans, le château fort fut transformé en château. Passionné d'ornithologie, le Dr phil. h.c. Hans Freiherr von Berlepsch (1857-1933) créa en 1884/85 un parc de protection des oiseaux et fit transformer le siège familial de 1911 à 1914 afin de le rendre conforme aux normes de protection des oiseaux. En 1908, son établissement privé fut le premier du genre à être reconnu comme « station expérimentale et modèle pour la protection des oiseaux, agréée par l'État ». Aujourd'hui, la « Station d'observation des oiseaux de Seebach » fait partie de l'autorité compétente au sein de l'« Office régional de Thuringe pour l'environnement, les mines et la protection de la nature » (TLUBN) et le château abrite l'administration du parc national de Hainich.

Seebach Castle was built in the middle of the 13th century by a local knightly family. The complex consisted of two parallel rectangular buildings, which were surrounded by a moat and a Zwinger (wall with an outer courtyard). In 1523, Seebach passed into the possession of the Lords von Berlepsch. After partial destruction in 1525 during the Peasants' War, the castle was converted into a manor. Dr. phil. h.c. Hans Freiherr von Berlepsch (1857–1933), an enthusiastic ornithologist, created a bird sanctuary in 1884/85 and had the family seat rebuilt from 1911 to 1914 to make it suitable for bird protection. In 1908, his private institution became the first of its kind to become a „state-approved experimental and model station for bird protection.“ Today, the “Seebach Bird Protection Station” is part of the specialist authority in the “Thuringian State Office for the Environment, Mining and Nature Conservation” (TLUBN) and the manor houses the administration of the Hainich National Park.
