An der Quelle der Unstrut Dingelstädt ist die Stadt an der Unstrutquelle. Die Unstrutquelle entspringt in der Ortschaft Kefferhausen und liegt 386 m über dem Meeresspiegel. Die Ortschaft ist am westlichen Rand einer Mulde im oberen Unstruttal gelegen und wird umrahmt von den allmählich ansteigenden Höhen der Muschelkalk-Hochfläche des oberen Eichsfeldes. Der Fluss „Unstrut“ sowie die zahlreichen kleinen Nebenflüsse sind prägende Elemente des Lebensraumes der fünf Ortschaften Dingelstädt, Helmsdorf, Kefferhausen, Kreuzebra und Silberhausen. Die Unstrut mündet nach 192 km als wasserreicher Nebenfluss in die Saale bei Naumburg. Der Platz um die Quelle herum bietet allen Radfahrern und Wanderern Sitzgelegenheiten zum Ruhen, Picknicken und Verweilen. Kinder können sich auf dem Spielplatz austoben. Außerdem beginnt hier der beliebte und gern befahrene Unstrutradweg, der bekannt ist für seine schöne Natur, Ruhe und eindrucksvolle Landschaft.
