The first mention of a church in Niederroßla is found in 996. In 1650 a church building begins. In 1656 the church fell victim to a fire. The present baroque hall church, largely rebuilt in 1718-1723 under the direction of the ducal land architect Johann Adolf Richter from Weimar, with a slated helmet construction and rococo onion dome, begun in 1670, was consecrated in 1721. The three-axis nave has a polygonally closed choir, two circumferential galleries, paintings on the gallery parapets and the nave ceiling, a coat-of-arms-decorated lord's box, a four-tiered pulpit altar [with angel figures, vines, and life-size figures of Moses with the tablets of the law and Christ with the cross]. In 1899, an extensive renovation took place. In 1971/72 the church was restored. In 2000/02 a general renovation had to be carried out due to fungal decay. The gravestone of Magarete Kestner, Martin Luther's niece, who was married in Niederroßla, is located here. The organ was built in 1735 by Heinrich Nicolaus Trebs (Weimar). In 1853 it was rebuilt by Louis Witzmann (organ acceptance by Johann Gottlob Töpfer). The peal is composed of two chilled iron bells made by Ulrich & Weule (Apolda & Bockenem) in 1920 and one by Schilling & Lattermann (Apolda and Morgenröthe) in 1957. The fourth bell in the tower is a bronze bell by Nicolaus Jonas Sorber (Erfurt) from 1715. The parsonage (next to the church) already existed in pre-Reformation times, it was rebuilt in 1826 by the Weimar architect Coudray.
