The Catholic church of St. John the Baptist in Oberthulba impressively combines architecture from several centuries. The striking church tower with its four storeys, which are separated by cornices, dates back to 1464. The upper storey with its typical sound windows, which are closed in the ogee arch with a round separating column, was added in 1608 under Prince-Bishop Julius Echter. It contains four bells - two Gothic bells from 1486, one from 1611 and the largest from 1984, which is dedicated to the church's patron saint. The present church was built from 1854 and consecrated by Bishop Georg Anton Stahl in 1859. Only the tower remains from the previous building. In 1953, the interior of the church was simplified in the Romanesque style and later embellished with figures of saints and a crucifixion group. The parish is particularly proud of its large organ with 37 stops, which was built by the Hey company in 2002. A remarkable collection of relics was placed in a chapel under the gallery in 2004 - further evidence of Oberthulba's lively church history.
