Le camping Saalethal-Alter se trouve au bord du troisième plus grand lac artificiel d'Allemagne, le Hohenwarte-Stausee - un paradis pour les amateurs de camping et de sports nautiques, les pêcheurs et les amoureux de la nature. En plus d'un équipement complet et d'un service de première classe, c'est surtout sa situation qui fait de ce camping un pôle d'attraction du monde entier. Le lac de retenue a des allures de fjord grâce à son cours sinueux, et les magnifiques montagnes à gauche et à droite du plan d'eau contribuent à créer un décor enchanteur avec leur végétation luxuriante. On peut s'y amuser, si ce n'est en se baignant, en faisant du bateau ou en faisant un tour en vélo électrique, que l'on peut commencer ici avec des vélos de location. Il y a d'ailleurs suffisamment d'espace pour les campeurs, puisque plus de 30 emplacements pour caravanes et camping-cars, ainsi que 50 emplacements pour tentes et 7 caravanes attendent les visiteurs. Ceux qui ne possèdent pas leur propre caravane peuvent en louer une, ceux qui souhaitent dormir de manière innovante peuvent prendre place dans un tonneau de couchage.
