About: Hohenleuben City of Hohenleuben

Hohenleuben is one of the smallest towns in the East Thuringian region and can look back on an old historical tradition, first mentioned in 1267; market law in 1715; judicial office in 1716; town law in 1928. Situated on a mountain, surrounded by forest, meadow and river landscapes, the small town invites its visitors to stay. Special attractions are: the town church Hohenleuben with altar painting "Kalvarienberg" with the family grave of the princely house Reuß - Köstritz and an exhibition about the princely house, permanent exhibition about life and works of the last Gotha court painter Paul Emil Jacobs, castle ruin Reichenfels. The town is also known for its prison.

Hohenleuben ist eine der kleinsten Städte im Ostthüringer Raum und kann auf eine alte geschichtliche Tradition zurückblicken, Ersterwähnung 1267; Marktrecht 1715; Justizamt 1716; Stadtrecht 1928. Auf einem Berg gelegen, von Wald-, Wiesen- und Flusslandschaften umgeben, fordert die Kleinstadt seine Besucher zum Verweilen auf. Besondere Anziehungspunkte sind die Stadtkirche Hohenleuben mit Altargemälde "Kalvarienberg" mit der Familiengruft des Fürstenhauses Reuß-Köstritz und eine Ausstellung über das Fürstenhaus, Dauerausstellung über Leben und Werke des letzten Gothaer Hofmalers Paul Emil Jacobs, Burgruine Reichenfels. Bekannt ist die Stadt auch durch die Justizvollzugsanstalt.
