About: Kulturhaus Hirschberg

Das Hirschberger Kulturhaus wurde am 21.12.1949 als erster Kulturhausneubau in der DDR eröffnet. Es war ein einmaliges Selbsthilfeprojekt der Lederfabrik und hebt sich damit aus der Vielzahl von Kulturhausbauten, die vor 1953 zumeist die Sowjetischen Militäradministration veranlaßte, heraus. Aus dem einstigen Dieselmotorenhaus der Lederfabrik sowie der Küche der Speisebaracke entstand nach Plänen der Werksbauabteilung, ein völlig neues Gebäude. In die Planungsarbeiten waren auch Studenten der Bauhochschule Weimar unter Anleitung von Hermann Henselmann, dem späteren Architekten der Berliner Stalinalle einbezogen. In der unfreiwilligen Abgeschiedenheit des Grenzgebietes mauserte sich das Kulturhaus zur einstigen Kulturstätte der Region. Hier finden Veranstaltungen wie z.B. Theateraufführungen, Konzerte, Tanzveranstaltungen und Faschingsfeiern statt. Der Saal bietet Platz für ca. 600 Gäste. Auch eine Galerie mit ca. 180 Sitzplätzen gehört zum Objekt. Für die Künstler steht eine Bühne mit Garderoben-Bereich zur Verfügung. Vor dem Saal befindet sich ein Foyer mit Bar und Imbiss. Eine Gaderobe kann genutzt werden.

The Hirschberg House of Culture was opened on December 21, 1949 as the first new cultural building in the GDR. It was a unique self-help project by the leather factory and thus stands out from the large number of cultural buildings that were mostly commissioned by the Soviet military administration before 1953. A completely new building was created from the former diesel engine house of the leather factory and the kitchen of the dining barracks according to plans by the factory construction department. Students from the Weimar construction college were also involved in the planning work under the guidance of Hermann Henselmann, who later became the architect of the Berlin Stalinalle. In the involuntary seclusion of the border area, the Kulturhaus developed into the region's former cultural center. Events such as theater performances, concerts, dances and carnival celebrations take place here. The hall offers space for approx. 600 guests. A gallery with approx. 180 seats is also part of the building. A stage with a checkroom area is available for the artists. In front of the hall is a foyer with a bar and snack bar. A cloakroom can be used.
