Quels liens deux célèbres Thuringiens ont-ils avec un sentier de randonnée ? Bien que Johann Wolfgang von Goethe ait beaucoup voyagé dans les forêts locales et que Johann Sebastian Bach ait parcouru bien des chemins à pied, on pense d'abord aux beaux-arts pour ces deux figures. Pourtant, ce sentier de randonnée ne relie pas Arnstadt et Ilmenau pour rien, il relie aussi deux mondes. Les œuvres musicales de Bach proviennent de la période baroque tardive au début du 18e siècle. Goethe, le grand poète du classicisme, est né en 1749 - un an avant la mort de Bach. Bien que leurs périodes de création soient différentes, musique et littérature vont de pair sur ce sentier. Le parcours commence à la gare sud d'Arnstadt. Il vaut la peine de visiter avant le départ le monument Bach et l'église Bach sur la place du marché. Le monument Bach représente Bach jeune homme. Et ce n'est pas un hasard : J.S. Bach avait 18 ans quand il obtint ici son premier poste stable d'organiste. On rejoint la place du marché directement via Hozmarkt - Kohlemarkt et Längwitzer Straße. De la gare sud, le chemin va vers le sud et la forêt de Thuringe. En passant par Kurhausplatz, suivez la voie ferrée jusqu'au zoo "Fasanerie" puis tournez à gauche dans Kirschallee. À travers des jardins idylliques, vous atteignez bientôt les premières contreforts de la forêt de Thuringe et entrez dans la réserve naturelle "Große Luppe". Entre Kuh- et Pappelberg, le sentier traverse les collines douces près d'Arnstadt jusqu'au point de vue Wipfratal. De là, vous avez une vue fantastique vers le sud sur Reinsfeld avec son église fortifiée historique, jusqu'au barrage de Heyda. Le chemin continue en passant la réserve naturelle "Ziegenried" vers l'ancienne Reinsburg. À près de 600 m d'altitude, il ne reste aujourd'hui que des vestiges du château fort des chevaliers brigands. Le chemin suit un sentier forestier sinueux jusqu'au prochain point de vue à Rabenberg, puis par Walsberg vers Halskappe et Heydaer Berg. À travers la réserve naturelle "Veronika Berg", vous atteignez bientôt Karolinenblick d'où vous jouissez d'une magnifique vue sur Martinroda jusqu'au puissant pont Reichenbach sur l'autoroute 71. En traversant la localité, le chemin monte à nouveau vers l'autoroute de la forêt de Thuringe. Il ne reste plus beaucoup de chemin jusqu'à Ilmenau. En passant par les étangs de Hirtenbusch, vous atteignez la "porte de la forêt de Thuringe" près de Pörlitzer Höhe. Après un détour par le cimetière historique et en passant la fontaine Goethe, la randonnée se termine sur la place du marché au Musée GoetheStadt. Pour les randonneurs aguerris, la seconde partie commence ici sur les traces de grands Thuringiens : Le sentier Goethe vous mène à travers la montagne locale des Ilmenauers, le Kickelhahn, en passant par la célèbre maison Goethe et la maison de chasse Gabelbach jusqu'à l'hôtel de montagne et de chasse Gabelbach, puis par la taverne forestière historique Auerhahn jusqu'au musée Goethe à Stützerbach.

What do two famous Thuringians have to do with a hiking trail? Although Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was often on the move in the local forests and Johann Sebastian Bach covered many a distance on foot, people usually first think of the fine arts when it comes to both. Yet this hiking trail deliberately connects the towns of Arnstadt and Ilmenau and also links two worlds. Bach's musical works come from the late Baroque period in the early 18th century. Goethe, the great poet of Classicism, was born in 1749 – one year before Bach's death. Although their creative periods differ greatly, music and literature walk hand in hand not only on this hiking trail. The route begins at the South Station in Arnstadt. It is worth visiting the Bach Monument and the Bach Church on the market square before starting. The Bach Monument depicts Bach as a young man. And there is good reason for this: J. S. Bach was just 18 years old when he secured his first permanent position as an organist here. From there, head directly over the Holzmarkt - Kohlemarkt and Längwitzer Straße to the market. From the South Station, go south towards the Thuringian Forest. Passing the Kurhausplatz, follow the railway line until shortly before the "Fasanerie" animal park and then turn left into Kirschallee. Through idyllic allotment gardens, you soon reach the first foothills of the Thuringian Forest and enter the nature reserve "Große Luppe". The hiking trail runs between Kuh and Pappelberg through the still gentle hilly landscape near Arnstadt to the Wipfratal viewpoint. From here you have a fantastic view south over Reinsfeld with its historic fortified church, reaching as far as the Heyda reservoir. Continue past the nature reserve "Ziegenried" to the former Reinsburg. At almost 600 m altitude, only remains of the once medieval robber baron castle are still visible today. The path follows a winding forest trail to the next viewpoint at Rabenberg and then on over Walsberg to Halskappe and Heydaer Berg. Through the nature reserve "Veronika Berg" you soon reach the Karolinenblick, from which you have a wonderful panoramic view over Martinroda to the mighty Reichenbach bridge of the A71 motorway. The route then goes back uphill through the village to the Thuringian Forest motorway. Ilmenau is now not far away. Passing the Hirtenbusch ponds, you reach the "Gateway to the Thuringian Forest" near the Pörlitzer height. After a detour over the historic cemetery and past the Goethe fountain, the route ends at the market square by the Goethe City Museum. For experienced hikers, the second section begins here, following in the footsteps of great Thuringians: the Goethe hiking trail takes you over Ilmenau's local mountain, the Kickelhahn, past the famous Goethe cabin and the hunting lodge Gabelbach to the mountain and hunting hotel Gabelbach and further on over the historic forest inn Auerhahn to the Goethe Museum in Stützerbach.

Was haben zwei berühmte Thüringer mit einem Wanderweg zu tun? Zwar war Johann Wolfgang von Goethe viel unterwegs in den heimischen Wäldern und auch Johann Sebastian  Bach legte so manche Strecke auf Schusters Rappen zurück, doch eigentlich denkt man bei beiden zuallererst an die schönen Künste. Und doch verbindet dieser Wanderweg nicht umsonst die Städte Arnstadt und Ilmenau, er verbindet auch zwei Welten. Bachs musikalische Werke entspringen der Zeit des späten Barocks im frühen 18. Jahrhunderts. Goethe, der große Dichter der Klassik, wurde 1749 – ein Jahr vor Bachs Tod – geboren. So unterschiedlich die Schaffensperioden auch sein mögen, Musik und Literatur gehen nicht nur auf diesem Wanderweg Hand in Hand einher. Die Tour beginnt am Südbahnhof in Arnstadt. Es lohnt sich, vor dem Start das Bachdenkmal und die Bachkirche auf dem Marktplatz zu besuchen.  Das Bachdenkmal stellt Bach als jungen Mann dar. Und das hat einen guten Grund: J. S. Bach war gerade 18 Jahre, als er hier seine erste feste Anstellung als Organist bekam. Zum Markt geht es direkt über den den Hozmarkt - Kohlemarkt und Längwitzer Straße. Vom Südbahnhof aus geht es nach Süden und Richtung Thüringer Wald. Am Kurhausplatz vorbei folgen Sie der Bahntrasse bis kurz vor den Tierpark "Fasanerie" und biegen dann in die Kirschallee links ab. Durch idyllische Kleingartenanlagen gelangen sie alsbald zu den ersten Ausläufern des Thüringer Waldes und betreten das Naturschutzgebiet "Große Luppe". Zwischen Kuh- und Pappelberg verläuft der Wanderweg durch die noch sanfte Hügellandschaft bei Arnstadt bis zum Aussichtspunkt Wipfratal. Von hier aus haben Sie einen fantastischen Blick Richtung Süden über Reinsfeld mit seiner historischen Wehrkirche, bis hin zur Talsperre Heyda. Weiter geht es am Naturschutzgebiet "Ziegenried" vorbei zur ehemaligen Reinsburg. Auf knapp 600 m Höhe sind heute allerdings nur noch Überreste der einstigen Raubritterfestung erkennbar. Der Weg folgt einem verschlungenen Waldpfad zum nächsten Aussichtspunkt am Rabenberg und weiter über den Walsberg zur Halskappe und dem Heydaer Berg. Durch das Naturschutzgebiet "Veronika Berg" erreichen Sie bald den Karolinenblick von dem Sie eine wunderbare Weitsicht über Martinroda bis zur mächtigen Reichenbachbrücke der Autobahn 71 haben. Durch den Ort geht es bald wieder bergan hinauf zur Thüringerwald-Autobahn. Nun ist Ilmenau nicht mehr weit. An den Hirtenbuschteichen vorbei erreichen Sie das "Tor zum Thüringer Wald" unweit der Pörlitzer Höhe. Nach einem Abstecher über den historischen Friedhof und am Goethebrunnen vorbei endet die Tour am Marktplatz am GoetheStadtMuseum. Für gestandene Wanderleute beginnt hier der zweite Abschnitt auf den Spuren großer Thüringer: Der Goethewanderweg führt Sie über den Hausberg der Ilmenauer, den Kickelhahn, vorbei am berühmten Goethehäuschen und dem Jagdhaus Gabelbach zum Berg- und Jagdhotel Gabelbach und weiter über das historische Waldgasthaus Auerhahn zum Goethemuseum nach Stützerbach.
