Der erste Teil führt uns direkt bergauf bis zu dem Örtchen Bucha - dem höchsten Punkt der Tour. Im nahegelegenem Kamsdorf gibt es zahlreiche Möglichkeiten etwas über den lokalen Bergbau zu erfahren. Das Besucherbergwerk „Vereinigte Reviere Kamsdorf" hält nicht nur einiges Wissenswertes über den Abbau von Kupfer, Silber und Erz bereit, sondern auch die Möglichkeit, die einstigen Förderstätten untertage zu erkunden. Die nächsten Kilometer führen uns abwärts zwischen Wiesen und Felder nach Saalfeld.  In Saalfeld lohnt sich ein Stadtrundgang. Sehenswürdigkeiten sind das Rathaus und die Burgruine Hoher Schwarm in der Saalfelder Innenstadt. Außerdem ist die Villa Bergfried mit ihren weitläufigen Parkanlagen einen Besuch wert. Auf jeden Fall müssen wir aber zu den farbenreichen Saalfelder Feengrotten. Das ehemalige Schieferbergwerk ist seit 1914 als Schauhöhle geöffnet. Der Rückweg führt uns über den Saale-Radwanderweg an der Saale entlang durch kleine Örtchen in einer schönen Naturlandschaft. Auf dem letzten Abschnitt müssen wir noch einmal einige Höhenmeter überwinden, um auf Höhe des Stausees Hohenwarte zu gelangen. Hier können wir bei einer Runde Minigolf oder einer kleinen Bootstour entspannen, bevor es die letzten Höhenmeter hinauf zu unserem Ausgangspunkt am Waldhotel am Stausee geht.

La première partie nous conduit directement en montée jusqu'au village de Bucha, le point le plus élevé du parcours. Dans le voisinage de Kamsdorf, il y a de nombreuses possibilités d'en apprendre davantage sur l'exploitation minière locale. La mine touristique "Vereinigte Reviere Kamsdorf" offre non seulement des informations intéressantes sur l'extraction du cuivre, de l'argent et du minerai, mais aussi la possibilité d'explorer les anciens sites d'extraction souterrains. Les kilomètres suivants nous mènent en descente entre prairies et champs vers Saalfeld. À Saalfeld, une visite de la ville vaut le détour. Les points d'intérêt sont l'hôtel de ville et les ruines du château Hoher Schwarm dans le centre-ville de Saalfeld. De plus, la villa Bergfried avec ses vastes parcs mérite une visite. Mais il faut surtout aller aux grottes colorées de Saalfeld. L'ancienne mine d'ardoise est ouverte en tant que grotte spectacle depuis 1914. Le chemin du retour suit la piste cyclable de la Saale le long de la rivière à travers de petits villages dans un beau paysage naturel. Sur le dernier tronçon, il faut encore franchir quelques mètres d'altitude pour atteindre la hauteur du barrage de Hohenwarte. Là, on peut se détendre en jouant au minigolf ou en faisant une petite promenade en bateau, avant de gravir les derniers mètres jusqu'à notre point de départ à l'hôtel forestier au barrage.

The first part takes us directly uphill to the village of Bucha – the highest point of the route. In nearby Kamsdorf there are numerous opportunities to learn something about the local mining. The visitor mine “Vereinigte Reviere Kamsdorf” not only offers some interesting facts about the extraction of copper, silver, and ore, but also the possibility to explore the former underground mining sites. The next kilometers lead us downhill between meadows and fields to Saalfeld. A city tour in Saalfeld is worthwhile. Attractions include the town hall and the castle ruins Hoher Schwarm in the Saalfeld city center. Also worth a visit is the Villa Bergfried with its extensive park grounds. In any case, a visit to the colorful Saalfeld Fairy Grottoes is a must. The former slate mine has been open as a show cave since 1914. The return route leads us along the Saale bike path by the Saale through small villages in a beautiful natural landscape. In the last section, we have to overcome some altitude once again to reach the height of the Hohenwarte reservoir. Here we can relax with a round of mini-golf or a small boat trip before climbing the last altitude meters back to our starting point at the Waldhotel am Stausee.

Nördlich vom Ortseingang Kamsdorf finden wir das Besucherbergwerk „Vereinigte Reviere Kamsdorf". Wir folgen der Straße weiter, die mehrmals ihren Namen ändert bis es die Kamsdorfer Straße wird. Auf dieser halten wir uns bei beiden Straßengabelungen links. Dann biegen wir rechts auf den Ziegenberg ab, überqueren eine Kreuzung und zweigen dann auf die Eisenstraße nach links ab. Über die Eisenstraße verlassen wir das Dorf und biegen nach 3 km rechts auf die Rote Berg Straße ab, die uns bis nach Saalfeld/Saale führt. In Saalfeld angekommen bietet es sich an, die Innenstadt zu erkunden. Besonders lohnenswert ist hier ein Abstecher zum Saalfelder Rathaus und der Burgruine Hoher Schwarm. Die Saalfelder Feengrotten liegen am westlichen Stadtrand und sind über die B281, die quer durch die Stadt verläuft, zu erreichen. Am Ufer der Saale im Stadtteil Köditz beginnt der ausgeschilderte Saale-Radwanderweg und führt uns bis nach Eichicht an der Saale entlang zurück. Kurz hinter dem Dorf überqueren wir die Saale und folgen dann dem Radweg an ihrem Ufer entlang bis hinauf zum Stausee Hohenwarte. Von hier gelangen wir über den gleichen Weg weiter zu unserem Ausgangspunkt, dem Waldhotel am Stausee.
