"If these grottos were not in Germany, but in America, for example, people would have made a pilgrimage there from all over the world long ago!" This quote was coined in 1914 by Professor Ernst Haeckel, a famous naturalist of his time, at the opening of the Saalfeld Fairy Grottoes show mine. On December 22, 1913, scientists stumbled upon the most beautiful part of the Saalfeld Fairy Grottoes, the Fairy Dome. "And when the lamplight breaks through the darkness - who dares to speak a word! - Awe-inspiring, solemn, sublime in untouched purity and splendor, the Fairy Dome with its Grail Castle stood before the explorers," writes Hermann Meyer, one of the explorers. Impressed by the beauty of the fairy-tale dome, the Berlin banker Adolf Mützelburg took the decision to open the old mine "Jeremias Glück" to the public. On May 31, 1914, he opened the show mine to the public. It is remarkable that the caves were already illuminated with electric light at the opening, as not every household had electricity at that time. Other attractions in the fairy grotto park today include the Fairy World Adventure Forest, where young and old can explore the magical realms of natural creatures, and the Grottoneum adventure museum with numerous hands-on stations on the topics of mining, stalactites and minerals. In addition, the dreamlike setting of the fairytale dome can be used for underground wedding ceremonies. 31 May 2014 marked the 100th anniversary of the opening of the exhibition mine, which was celebrated with numerous events.

En outre, le décor de rêve du "Märchendom" peut être utilisé pour des mariages sous terre.

Die beginnt mit dem traditionellen Bergmannsgruß „Glück auf!“ und führt unter anderem in den Märchendom, die älteste und schönste Grotte. Überall zieren unzählige Tropfsteingebilde in bunter Farben- und Formenpracht die Wände, Decken und Sohlen der Grotten und machen die unterirdischen Hohlräume zu einem natürlichen Kunstwerk. Das einzigartige Klima unter Tage ist auch ein Geheimtipp zur Entspannung und Stärkung des Immunsystems. Zugleich dient es der natürlichen und nebenwirkungsfreien Behandlung bei Atemwegserkrankungen. Im Heilstollen, einem separaten Grubenteil, werden ambulante Inhalationskuren angeboten. Anfassen, Staunen und Entdecken heißt es in der Erlebnisausstellung Grottoneum, dem Museum zum Mitmachen. An spannenden Mitmach- und Wissensstationen kann man den Geheimnissen des Bergbaus, der Tropfsteine und der Mineralien selbst auf die Spur gehen. Wie zündete der Bergmann sein Licht an? Wie bekommen die Tropfsteine ihre Farben? Wie wachsen Minerale? Auf diese und viele andere Fragen findet man hier eine Antwort. Wer sich auf die Welt der Feen einlassen möchte, stattet am besten auch dem Abenteuerwald Feenweltchen einen Besuch ab. Über die magische Feenpforte gelangt man in die Welt der Naturgeister. Hier, im verzauberten Wald oberhalb der Feengrotten, sind sie zuhause – die Feen und Elfen, die Kobolde und Trolle. Verschlungene Pfade führen in den magischen Garten der Feenpflanzen, den hellen Hain der Lichtelfen, das dunkle Reich der Waldgeister und die bunte Elfenwiese. Alles was man braucht sind Fantasie und Zeit zum Träumen, Spielen und Entdecken. Und mit ein wenig Glück begegnet man hier sogar einer echten Fee.
