Beginne die Route im Wohngebiet Mehliser Struth und laufe zum "Jahnstein" (Gedenkstein Johann Friedrich Ludwig Christoph Jahn, bekannt als Turnvater Jahn). Hier gibt es einen ersten Ausblick. An der Sitzgruppe "Buchenbrunnen" (1,8 km) angekommen, geht es weiter entlang des Waldrandes. Hier stößt man auf den Rhön-Rennsteig-Weg und folgt diesem nach rechts in Richtung Braukopf (2,2 km).  An der Braukopfhütte (Schutzhütte) vorbei kann man bei km 3,2 einen Abstecher zum Gipfel des Ruppberges machen (Umweg entspricht 1,2 km). Über den Gemsenstieg (Markierung grüner Punkt auf weißem Quadrat) geht es zurück durch das Ruppertstal zur Mehliser Struth.

Start the route in the residential area Mehliser Struth and walk to "Jahnstein" (memorial stone Johann Friedrich Ludwig Christoph Jahn, known as Turnvater Jahn). Here is a first viewpoint. Upon arriving at the seating area "Buchenbrunnen" (1.8 km), continue along the forest edge. Here you join the Rhön-Rennsteig path and follow it to the right towards Braukopf (2.2 km).  Passing the Braukopf hut (shelter), you can take a detour to the Ruppberg summit at km 3.2 (detour is 1.2 km). Via the Gemsenstieg (marked with a green dot on a white square), it goes back through Ruppertstal to Mehliser Struth.
