Le parcours cycliste Bergbahnroute traverse les localités de Saalfeld, Unterwellenborn, Könitz et Kamsdorf. Le panneau de signalisation montre un cycliste sur un rocher brun avec le logo « Schalgel und Eisen » (marteau et pioche). Le long du parcours, vous trouverez de nombreuses indications sur l’exploitation minière, qui a donné son nom à ce circuit. On peut encore aujourd’hui l’observer à la diversité visible des types de roches. Il ne s'agit pas seulement de l’extraction de matériaux de construction, comme dans la grande exploitation minière de Kamsdorf, mais aussi de l’extraction de minerai utilisé comme matière première pour les métaux et les pigments. Cela a conduit au développement de la métallurgie dans la région, un exemple important en est l’histoire de l’usine sidérurgique Thuringe à Unterwellenborn. Les célèbres Grottes de fées de Saalfeld, connues comme les grottes les plus colorées du monde, sont également un impressionnant résultat de l’ancienne exploitation minière. Un point de départ particulièrement intéressant pour votre parcours est la mine musée de Kamsdorf. Grâce à deux parcours circulaires souterrains judicieusement aménagés, vous y découvrirez des aperçus impressionnants des différentes époques minières. Pour les plus aventuriers, il est même possible d’explorer plus de 500 mètres de galeries au sud, avec des wagonnets d’origine transportés par train. Depuis la mine musée, vous pouvez poursuivre votre randonnée à vélo par Eisenstraße puis Rote-Berg-Straße en direction de Saalfeld. Sur le chemin, vous profiterez de nombreux beaux points de vue — comme celui de « Wernburg » sur la région pittoresque du parc naturel « Thüringer Schiefergebirge/Obere Saale », ou encore celui de la « Schwedenschanze » dominant la ville de Saalfeld. À Unterwellenborn-Röblitz, au Talbachweg, une vue intéressante s’offre également sur le site industriel « Maxhütte » avec son impressionnant monument industriel « Gasmaschinenzentrale ».

The Bergbahnroute bike loop passes through the towns of Saalfeld, Unterwellenborn, Könitz, and Kamsdorf. The route marking shows a cyclist on brown rock with the logo "Pick and Hammer". Along the route, you will find numerous references to the mining that gave the trail its name. This is still visible today in the variety of exposed rock types. It's not just about extracting building materials, as seen in the large-scale mine at Kamsdorf, but also about mining ore used as a metal and pigment raw material. This led to the development of the smelting industry in the region, with a significant example being the history of the Thuringia steelworks in Unterwellenborn. The famous Saalfeld Fairy Grottoes, considered the most colorful grottos in the world, are also an impressive result of the former mining activity. A particularly interesting starting point for your route is the visitor mine in Kamsdorf. Through two cleverly designed underground loops, you gain impressive insights into different mining periods. If you are adventurous, you can even explore the southern mining area underground over more than 500 meters by train in original crew cars. From the visitor mine, you can continue your bike route via Eisenstraße and then via Rote-Berg-Straße towards Saalfeld. Along the way, you will encounter many beautiful views – for example, from the "Wernburg" viewpoint into the scenic natural park area "Thuringian Slate Mountains/Upper Saale", or from the "Schwedenschanze" over the town of Saalfeld. In Unterwellenborn-Röblitz, at Talbachweg, there is also a worthwhile view of the industrial site "Maxhütte" with the impressive industrial monument "Gas Engine Central".

Der rund 25 Kilometer lange Radrundweg „Bergbauoute“ verbindet die Orte Saalfeld, Unterwellenborn, Könitz und Kamsdorf. Sein Wegemal – ein Radfahrer auf braunem Fels mit dem Symbol „Schlägel und Eisen“ – erinnert an die lange Bergbau- und Hütten­tradition der Region. Entlang der Strecke erzählen zahlreiche Hinweise von der Gewinnung von Bau- und Erzmaterial, wie im Großtagebau Kamsdorf, und vom Aufstieg des regionalen Hüttenwesens, dessen Geschichte bis zum modernen Stahlwerk Thüringen in Unterwellenborn reicht. Auch die farbenprächtigen Saalfelder Feengrotten sind ein eindrucksvolles Relikt dieser Zeit. Ein lohnenswerter Ausgangspunkt ist das Besucherbergwerk Kamsdorf. Zwei untertägige Rundwege vermitteln anschauliche Eindrücke vergangener Epochen – auf Wunsch sogar per Bahn mit originalen Mannschaftswagen auf 500 Metern unter Tage. Von dort führt die Route über die Eisenstraße und Rote-Berg-Straße nach Saalfeld. Aussichtspunkte wie die „Wernburg“ oder die „Schwedenschanze“ bieten herrliche Blicke über das Thüringer Schiefergebirge/Obere Saale. In Unterwellenborn-Röblitz lohnt zudem der Abstecher zum historischen Industrieareal der Maxhütte mit der markanten Gasmaschinenzentrale.
