Entlang des Südharzes reihen sich Südharzer Höhlen, Erdfälle, Dolinen, Karstquellen, Bachschwinden, Fluss Versinkungen, Karstkegel, Schlotten, Felsen und weiße Wände perlenschnurartig aneinander: Erscheinungen der hochauflösenden Wirkung des Wassers auf dieses besondere Gestein des Südharzes, den weißen Gips. Highlights am Weg sind die Naturschutzgebiete mit Höhlen und anderen Karsterscheinungen, seltene Tiere und Pflanzen, historische und moderne Abbaustätten, Kirchen, Burgruinen, Museen, Schaubergwerke und UNESCO Kulturstätten. Le long du Sudharz, une chaîne de grottes du Sudharz, gouffres, dolines, sources karstiques, pertes de ruisseaux, infiltrations de rivières, cônes karstiques, ravins, rochers et parois blanches s'alignent comme un collier de perles : des phénomènes résultant de l'effet haute résolution de l'eau sur cette roche particulière du Sudharz, le gypse blanc.
