In the southern part of the Thuringian Forest, scenic and wooded surroundings, lies the community of Lichte, surrounded by mountains that rise to 800m above sea level. Lichte consists of the four districts Wallendorf, Bock and pond, Geiersthal and Lichte. You will find peace and relaxation during walks through extensive forests and flowery meadows with natural beauties that have become rare in many places. Since 1764 "white gold" - porcelain has been produced in Lichte. With a visit to our local porcelain factories you can get an insight into this traditional craft and a small souvenir will always remind you of your visit to Lichte. Worth seeing and impressive is also the landmark of the village, the 253 m long and 34 m high railway viaduct, which spans the valley in which our village extends extensively. Furthermore you will find the church of Wallendorf, built in 1733 in the style of the peasant baroque. This building is illuminated since this year for the first time in the evening hours. n our drawing school Lichte - Geiersthal you can expect a great offer. There you can work on different articles like ceramics, porcelain, glass, wood, picture frames and plaster figures with a variety of motives and special colours as well as materials. This happens under expert guidance by Mrs. Walther. New in the offer is the purchase of all articles. In the same building is our Heimatstube, which deals with the traditional history of our village. By the way, the small watercourse through the village is also called Lichte and takes its course through the beautiful, charming landscape of the Lichte valley to the dam Lichte/ Leibis. The clean clear water, surrounded by densely wooded mountain slopes not only invites you to linger. The dam structure, which rises 102.5 metres above the ground, is imposing. The crown of the concrete wall measures 369 metres in width. Behind it, up to 39.2 million cubic metres of water are dammed up over a length of 3.6 kilometres. At its deepest point, it is 91 metres to the bottom where the Lichte once flowed. Near the new Leibis, between Rudolstadt and Neuhaus in the Thuringian Forest, in 2005 Germany was probably the last large dam to be built for the supply of drinking water; the Lichte - Leibis dam. For sport-enthusiastic vacationers a marvellously convenient outdoor swimming pool is available in Lichte - Geiersthal. A sports field, playgrounds as well as a football field invite to sporty activity. The various accommodation offers, which are available to you in Lichte, reach from the comfortable hotel bed up to the cosily equipped private room. A varied number of holiday flats and holiday houses, e.g. in the holiday village idyllically situated at the edge of the forest, but also with our hospitable private tenants invite you to a holiday - or holiday stay. And another tip: Visit us in winter. Because also at this season walks through a fairy-tale snow-covered winter forest, skiing on tracked ski hiking trails and tobogganing are inviting. We are looking forward to your visit.
