About: Waffenmuseum Suhl

Das Waffenmuseum Suhl ist eine städtische Institution mit europäischer Ausstrahlung, indem es den internationalen Ruf der Suhler Waffenproduktion in Vergangenheit und Gegenwart gebührend beachtet. Die Dauerausstellung legt den Schwerpunkt auf die Geschichte der Suhler Handfeuerwaffenfertigung. Erstmals wird die fast 600-jährige Geschichte der Suhler Fertigung von Handfeuerwaffen mit Originalexponaten aus allen Epochen dargestellt. Durch die Aufteilung in 6 Kernbereiche "Prunkwaffen“, "Heimat der Büchsenmacher“, "Militärwaffen", "Welt der Waffe", "Jagdwaffen“ und "Sportwaffen" ist es möglich, einen umfassenden Einblick zu geben. Eingebettet in die Dauerausstellung sind die Leistungen der Suhler Graveure und Medailleure. Einblicke werden gegeben in das Schießsportzentrum Suhl, das Suhler Beschussamt und die Suhler Berufsfachschule für Büchsenmacher und Graveure. In einer kleinen Rüstkammer werden Suhler Prunk- und Luxuswaffen gezeigt, die an die Herrscherhäuser Europas gingen. Diese erlesenen Handfeuerwaffen sind kunsthandwerkliche Produkte und zählen zu den Spitzenleistungen europäischer Büchsenmachergeschichte.

Le musée de l'armement de Suhl est une institution municipale au charisme européen, dans la mesure où il rend hommage à la réputation internationale de la production d'armes de Suhl, passée et présente. L'exposition permanente se concentre sur l'histoire de la fabrication des armes de poing à Suhl. The Suhl Weapons Museum is a municipal institution with European charisma in that it pays due respect to the international reputation of Suhl's weapons production, past and present. The permanent exhibition focuses on the history of Suhl's handgun production. For the first time, the almost 600-year history of Suhl's handgun production is presented with original exhibits from all eras. By dividing the exhibition into 6 core areas, "State Weapons", "Home of the Gunsmiths", "Military Weapons", "World of the Weapon", "Hunting Weapons" and "Sporting Weapons", it is possible to provide a comprehensive insight. The achievements of the Suhl engravers and medallists are embedded in the permanent exhibition. Insights are given into the Suhl Shooting Sports Centre, the Suhl Proof Office and the Suhl Vocational School for Gunsmiths and Engravers. In a small armoury, Suhl's ceremonial and luxury weapons are on display, which went to the ruling dynasties of Europe. These exquisite handguns are handcrafted products and are among the top achievements of European gunsmithing history.
