About: Oberes Schloss Greiz, Upper Castle Greiz

The Upper Castle is a widely known, architecturally valuable and striking cultural monument that captivates every observer. The landmark of the city of Greiz is the Upper Castle, situated on a 50 m high mountain cone in the middle of the city. Since November 2010 the museum is located in the south wing of the castle on four floors with the permanent exhibition "From the land of the bailiffs to the principality of Reuß of the older line" (with 3D film). The special feature of the museum is the combination of the unique building-historical substances of the 12th to 19th century with interactive, experienceable history - "a museum to touch and join in". Thus, one can determine the weight of a knight's helmet, illuminate the model of the medieval castle complex or let the "Heinrichs" speak. With the elevator it goes on a time journey by the centuries. On the skateboard you travel through the building history of the Upper Castle. You admire the Romanesque double chapel and dive into the world of the Reussians during the 3D film "The splendour and glory of the Reussians". Experience Reussian and Greiz history - in a whole new way. In the Upper Greiz Castle, history is not grey and boring, but a great experience.

Das Obere Schloss ist ein weithin bekanntes, architektonisch wertvolles und markantes Kulturdenkmal, das jeden Betrachter in seinen Bann zieht. Das Wahrzeichen der Stadt Greiz ist das Obere Schloss, auf einem 50 m hohen Bergkegel inmitten der Stadt gelegen. Seit November 2010 befindet sich im Südflügel des Schlosses auf vier Etagen das Museum mit der Dauerausstellung „Vom Land der Vögte zum Fürstentum Reuß älterer Linie“ (mit 3D-Film). Die Besonderheit des Museums ist die Verbindung der einzigartigen bauhistorischen Substanzen des 12. bis 19. Jahrhunderts mit interaktiv erlebbarer Geschichte – „ein Museum zum Anfassen und Mitmachen“. So kann man die Schwere eines Ritterhelms ermitteln, das Modell der mittelalterlichen Burganlage ausleuchten oder die „Heinriche“ sprechen lassen. Mit dem Fahrstuhl geht es auf eine Zeitreise durch die Jahrhunderte. Auf dem Skateboard reist man durch die Baugeschichte des Oberen Schlosses. Man bewundert die Romanische Doppelkapelle und taucht in die Welt der Reussen während des 3D-Films “Glanz und Gloria der Reussen“ ein. Reußische und Greizer Geschichte erleben – und das auf eine ganze neue Art und Weise. Im Oberen Schloss Greiz ist Geschichte nicht grau und langweilig, sondern ein tolles Erlebnis.
