Approximately in the middle of the idyllically situated mountain town of Ruhla, the museum is located in one of the most beautiful and oldest half-timbered houses in Ruhla. According to the age determination of the beams carried out in the course of an extensive reconstruction from 1992-1994, the house was built around 1613/1614. According to oral tradition, it probably belonged as a manor house to the hammer mill that once lay behind it. The building was therefore erected during the heyday of the cutlery trade and is later also said to have been the house of a cutlery merchant.
Already the exterior of the museum is worth seeing. The typical Thuringian-Franconian half-timbered building with Hessian influence was decorated with a splendid rhombus band in the facade between the first and second floor. Inside, the hallway with visible half-timbering, which reaches up to the second floor, is impressive. The Ruhla Museum is a listed building and entered in the regional list of thanks. In its 15 exhibition rooms, it shows the development of crafts and industry from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.
Craftsmanship and inventive talent led to the creation of products of world importance in Ruhla. Admirable is also the extensive collection of historical tobacco pipes, which were manufactured in the materials wood, meerschaum, clay and porcelain and show not rarely unusual curiosities. Also on display is a presentation of the culture and way of life of the people in the Ruhla Valley. On display are living and working conditions as well as customs, Ruhla personalities, folklore, a geological collection and a special exhibition on Friedrich Lux.

Etwa in der Mitte der idyllisch gelegenen Bergstadt Ruhla befindet sich das Museum in einem der schönsten und ältesten Fachwerkhäuser Ruhlas. Nach der im Zuge einer umfangreichen Rekonstruktion von 1992-1994 durchgeführten Altersbestimmung der Balken wurde das Haus um 1613/1614 erbaut. Mündlichen Überlieferungen zufolge gehörte es wahrscheinlich als Herrenhaus zu der einst dahinter gelegenen Hammerschmiede. Die Erbauung des Gebäudes lag also in der Blütezeit des Messerschmiedehandwerks und soll später auch das Haus eines Messerwaren-Handelsmannes gewesen sein.
Schon das Äußere des Museums ist Sehenswert. Der typisch thüringisch-fränkische Fachwerkbau mit hessischem Einfluss wurde in der Fassade zwischen dem ersten und zweiten Stockwerk mit einem prächtigen Rautenband geschmückt. Im Inneren beeindruckt der Hausflur mit sichtbarer Fachwerkkonstruktion, der bis ins zweite Stockwerk hinaufreicht. Das Ruhlaer Museum ist ein denkmalgeschützes Objekt und in die regionale Dankmalliste eingetragen. Es zeigt in seinen 15 Ausstellungsräumen die handwerkliche und industrielle Entwicklung vom Mittelalter bis ins 20. Jahrhundert.
Handwerk und Erfindergeist ließen in Ruhla Produkte von Weltbedeutung entstehen. Bewundernswert ist auch die umfangreiche Sammlung historischer Tabakpfeifen, die in den Materialien Holz, Meerschaum, Ton und Porzellan gefertigt wurden und nicht selten außergewöhnliche Kuriositäten zeigen. Gezeigt wird ferner die Darstellung von Kultur- und Lebensweise der Menschen im Ruhlaer Tal. Zu sehen sind Wohn- und Arbeitsbedingungen sowie Brauchtum, Ruhlaer Persönlichkeiten, Volkskunde, eine geologische Sammlung und eine Sonderausstellung zu Friedrich Lux.

Le musée est situé dans l'une des plus belles et des plus anciennes maisons à colombages de Ruhla, à peu près au milieu de la ville de montagne de Ruhla, qui jouit d'une situation idyllique. D'après la détermination de l'âge des poutres effectuée au cours d'une vaste reconstruction de 1992 à 1994, la maison a été construite vers 1613/1614. Selon la tradition orale, il a probablement appartenu, en tant que manoir, au moulin à marteaux qui se trouvait autrefois derrière lui. Le bâtiment a donc été construit à l'époque de l'apogée du commerce de la coutellerie et, plus tard, on dit qu'il a également été la maison d'un marchand de coutellerie.
L'extérieur du musée vaut déjà la peine d'être vu. Le bâtiment à colombages typique de Thuringe-franconie, avec une influence hessoise, était décoré d'une splendide bande en losange sur la façade entre le premier et le deuxième étage. À l'intérieur, le couloir à colombages visible, qui s'étend jusqu'au deuxième étage, est impressionnant. Le musée Ruhla est un bâtiment classé et inscrit sur la liste régionale des remerciements. Dans ses 15 salles d'exposition, il montre l'évolution de l'artisanat et de l'industrie du Moyen Âge au XXe siècle.
L'artisanat et le talent inventif ont conduit à la création de produits d'importance mondiale à Ruhla. Admirable est aussi la vaste collection de pipes à tabac historiques, qui ont été fabriquées dans les matériaux bois, écume, argile et porcelaine et présentent des curiosités pas rarement inhabituelles. Une présentation de la culture et du mode de vie des habitants de la vallée de la Ruhla est également prévue. Les conditions de vie et de travail ainsi que les coutumes, les personnalités de Ruhla, le folklore, une collection géologique et une exposition spéciale sur Friedrich Lux y sont exposés.
