The oldest church in the Vogtland is more than 1,000 years old and combines the architectural styles of many eras. Located in the Wünschendorf district of Veitsberg, the building dates back to a castle chapel from the year 974. Today, visitors to St. Vitus admire above all the late Gothic Marian altar, which was created around the year 1490, and the stained glass windows from the 12th century. Also noteworthy is a medieval stone relief depicting the patron saint of the church of St. Vitus. Since 1360, a wall tower of the ruined castle, which once adjoined the church, has served as the sacristy. Due to several reconstructions up to the 17th century, St. Vitus today contains architectural testimonies from many different style epochs. The church of St. Vitus is a central part of the cultural route of the bailiffs.
