La vallée mystique du moulin à pierre avec ses étranges formations rocheuses se situe entre Netzkater, Rothesütte, Sülzhayn et Appenrode dans le parc naturel du Harz méridional. La vallée doit son nom à un moulin à scie et à céréales qui y a été construit au 18e siècle. Une randonnée à travers cette vallée idyllique est possible à partir de différents points de départ, une aire de repos au bord du ruisseau abrite également le poinçon n° 96 de l'aiguille de randonnée du Harz. À gauche et à droite du chemin qui traverse la vallée encaissée se dressent de nombreux rochers fascinants qui ont longtemps enflammé l'imagination des hommes et qui portent des noms originaux comme tête de chouette, cheval ou Hercule. Plusieurs légendes entourent cette vallée qui vaut le détour. Un bon point de départ pour une randonnée à vélo ou à pied à travers la vallée de Steinmühl est par exemple le parking du Honigberg entre Netzkater et Rothesütte, directement sur la B 4.

Das mystische Steinmühlental mit seinen bizarren Felsformationen liegt zwischen Netzkater, Rothesütte, Sülzhayn und Appenrode im Naturpark Südharz. Das Tal verdankt seinen Namen einer Säge- und Getreidemühle, die hier im 18. Jahrhundert erbaut wurde. Eine Wanderung durch das idyllische Tal ist von verschiedenen Startpunkten aus möglich, an einer Raststelle am Bachlauf befindet sich auch die Stempelstelle Nr. 96 der Harzer Wandernadel. Links und rechts des Weges durch das tief eingeschnittene Tal ragen zahlreiche faszinierende Felsen empor, die die Fantasie der Menschen schon lange beflügeln und originelle Namen wie Eulenkopf, Pferd oder Herkules haben. Es ranken sich gleich mehrere Sagen um dieses sehenswerte Tal. So soll sich hier ein verwunschener Goldborn verstecken, aus dem einst ein altes Weib einen jungen Gesellen zum Dank belohnt haben soll. Ein guter Ausgangspunkt für eine Rad- oder Wandertour durchs Steinmühlental ist beispielsweise der Parkplatz am Honigberg zwischen Netzkater und Rothesütte direkt an der B 4.
